Cara Hayes and Jessica Zaman would like to raise money for the Kieren Douglas Teenager Cancer Foundation by running the 5K Color Run in Manchester on the 5th July 2014.
Our friend, Kieren Douglas, who was 17, was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma - which usually affects the elderly and attacks the glands - in October 2012 when he was 16, after finding a lump on his neck. He passed away 4 months later.
Ideally we would like to raise as much as possible for our beautiful friend as 100% of donations will go to the foundation.
His family have now set up the Kieren Douglas Teenage Cancer Foundation and hope to set up a teen scheme for the paediatric ward at the Nottingham's Queens Medical Centre which looked after Kieren and also raise awareness for teenager cancer sufferers.
His mother Ruth has said the staff on E39 were brilliant, but Kieren was at an awkward age, he was in a private room with intermittent wifi and was stuck for the things that make you feel like a teenager, with most of the entertainment revolving around infants. So the foundation is planning to provide boxes to teenage cancer victims and visiting parents on the ward, which will be full of goodies including vouchers and toiletries.
Amazingly the foundation has already bought 16 TVs for the paediatric ward at the Queen's Medical Centre, where Kieren was treated with the money raised already.
The 5K Color Run is already a highly advertised event and we would like to not only raise as much as possible for the foundation but also make others aware of Kierens Foundation and show what they are wanting to achieve.
And of course, do it for Kieren.
