MISSION STATEMENT

Like me, you probably watch films for a great story that moves you emotionally. With your help, I'd love you to join me in making a short film that will surprise and move you deeply.

But wait! There's more....Let me explain.

I'm Ivan Clements, a British writer/director based in Brighton.

We got very close when we were shortlisted down to the top ten.

So this time, I want to win the Oscar for best short film! Join me on my epic journey to win an Academy Award for 'KILTER'.

ABOUT THE FILM

"KILTER"

Logline: Whilst employing shady tactics to help Neema gain citizenship, can Athena grasp a rare chance for redemption?

The film follows the intense emotional journey of Athena, a middle-aged, first-generation African immigrant. She has a troubled past and has lost her way. Coping with the breakup with her son many years ago, she's on a mission to help others who have gone through a similar experience. However, the tactics she employs could well be damaging the people she's trying to help. Can she find a way through this tangled web she's created?

This story is based on true events and it's important to me as I want to expose the way the immigration system is set up which allows innocent people to be damaged. In doing so, I want to offer ways to heal.

As I am a mature student, your contributions will mean the difference between me shooting on my own and being able to pay for a great cast, reasonable size crew, food, set dressing, lighting, sound, music, all post-production and the Oscar-qualifying festival run.

In summary, your amazing contribution will be spent on quality cast, crew, travel, vital food, production design, camera, lights, sound, music score, editing, sound design, the final film and the Oscar-qualifying festival run. As you will see, I am taking no fees (aside from the required nominal £1 for contractual reasons).

I'm currently selling some of my camera gear to add to the fund.

Should I not reach my full goal, the funds will be equally distributed through the budget with catering and travel taking precedence. Anything over the goal will be equally distributed to all involved except myself. I will take no fee.

The Impact

"Kilter" explores social and legal systems tied to immigration in the UK. I look at the complex moral arguments surrounding how we relate to each other as human beings. It explores themes such as 'the ends justify the means vs do the right thing', and 'overcoming bitterness can lead to forgiveness and redemption.'  My goal is to raise questions and allow the audience to draw their own conclusions.

Risks & Challenges

As with all ventures, there are many risks and challenges involved. With my wealth of experience listed above, I am adept at navigating and troubleshooting anything that is thrown at me.

Having been a producer, I plan in meticulous detail ahead of production to reduce issues whilst we are filming. This allows me, as a director, to focus on the actor's performance and the film's aesthetic.
