FULFILLMENT UPDATES - 5/28/23

  • All packages have been shipped and the campaign is closing down on June 1st!

This new ongoing series is created and written by Alterna Comics founder & publisher, Peter Simeti!

Betrayed and cursed almost 500 years ago, KING CRYPTID has spent centuries protecting the innocent from man and monster alike. But now a deadly new threat has emerged, one that combines dark magic and corrupt science.

----------------------------------------------------------

In A World Of Unknown Creatures, KING CRYPTID Stands Alone...

Cursed as an immortal almost 500 years ago, KING CRYPTID spent nearly a century as a ravenous feral beast, powerless to stop himself from harming and killing almost anything that crossed his path.

In the late 1600s, a Wampanoag shaman named BLACKMOON helped restore KING CRYPTID's humanity by embedding a moonstone of mysterious origin into his crown of bone. In addition to restoring his humanity, the moonstone enhances KING CRYPTID's powers during the various phases of the moon, with his powers being augmented to superhuman levels during the night of a full moon and nearly drained during the night of a new moon.

The moonstone comes at a price, however.  On the night of a new moon, when the moon's light isn't able to charge the stone, KING CRYPTID will return to his cursed feral state until the moon's light shines once again. The only way for KING CRYPTID to avoid this fate is for him to rest and recharge in the waters of a cosmic spring located inside of his cave lair.

A hero to some, a god to a few, and a legendary creature to most, the man once known as KROWAN has spent nearly four centuries seeking redemption and trying to unravel the mysteries of the world around him; meeting many friends and battling many foes along the way.

Over 100 issues... and it all begins HERE!

Series creator Peter Simeti will be writing and lettering each issue.  Every issue will also feature the work of a different talented artist whose art style will be suited to the story being told. And of course, some fan favorite artists will be returning to draw more issues down the line!  A campaign will be launched every year for 4 to 5 new issues.  Considering KING CRYPTID's 500 year history -- there's going to be a lot of stories to tell from all different points in time.

Episodic storytelling in an ongoing format -- KING CRYPTID is unashamedly a comic book series for people that love comic books. Newsprint interiors (the standard here at Alterna), thought balloons, editor's notes, flipbook style covers (a cover on the front AND back of each issue), a "Mail to the King" letters page in which King Cryptid himself responds to the letters that arrive his way, a "Cryptid Sightings" fan art section -- this series is all about the fun and freedom of the comic book medium.

Pure escapism with heart.

KING CRYPTID #1 - After decades of peaceful seclusion in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, KING CRYPTID discovers that a potentially devastating conflict is brewing between the supernatural world of the unknown and the mortal world of humans.  Things kick off when a dangerous creature destroys the vehicle that was transporting it, a big game hunter is called in to capture the escaped beast and eliminate any potential threats. (First appearances: King Cryptid, BeheMoth, Victor Lugo) Story: Peter Simeti. Art: Kristian Rossi (Ages 12+; Full Color; 32 pages)

KING CRYPTID #2 - On the night of every New Moon, the energy emitting from  King Cryptid’s enchanted moonstone lessens and is eventually depleted. In order to recharge this moonstone and keep an ancient curse in check, he must return to his cave lair and submerge himself in the waters of a cosmic spring. On this particular night, the Granite Beast seeks to possess the cave lair by any means necessary. (First appearances: Will the Wolf, Granite Beast (full appearance; cameo on cover of IT CAME OUT ON A WEDNESDAY #7) Story: Peter Simeti. Art: Nic Hunter (Ages 12+; Black & White; 32 pages)

KING CRYPTID #3 - Lincoln, NH. September 19, 1984. Four friends (Eric, Linda, Ernie, and Eric's younger brother Jeff) go looking for King Cryptid in the White Mountain National Forest, believing this night to be a special one as it’s the 23rd anniversary of the first recorded UFO abduction in the United States. What happens on that night will change all of their lives forever. (First appearances: Eric, Jeff, Linda, Ernie)  Story: Peter Simeti. Art: Aleksandar Jovic (All Ages; Full Color; 32 pages)

KING CRYPTID #4 - Deep in the Hockomock Swamp lurks a monster so horrible that the native Wampanoag tribe dares not speak its name! When King Cryptid comes to the rescue of a cryptozoologist team, the terrible secret of Broog is at long last revealed!  (First appearances: Dr. Erin Karroll and her cryptozoologist team, Orion the Bear, Broog the Swamp Monster (full appearance; cameo on cover of IT CAME OUT ON A WEDNESDAY #15) Story: Peter Simeti; Art: Keir Covington and Kristian Rossi (Ages 12+; Full Color; 32 pages)

KING CRYPTID #1 Blank Cover Variant (uncoated cardstock cover; perfect for drawing!) Interior is the same as the first issue of KING CRYPTID.
