Modern wireless speakers are all about the clean & minimalist industrial design. Kranio challenges this trend of machined perfection with a design that fuses organic with mechanical.  

Our artists hand-paint each Kranio speaker with meticulous detailing.

Alan designed Kranio. As an industrial designer, he was frustrated by the lack of soul in modern product design. He loves to express himself through the music he listens to and wants his speakers to do the same. A little square-shaped white speaker just doesn't cut it. 

Alan knows his stuff. He has years of experience designing figurines for Marvel, DC and other pop culture products, as well as numerous Red Dot and Red Star Awards under his belt.

Why a lynx skull?

Alan created the speaker casing in the shape of a lynx skull because he wanted to contrast a feral, organic feature with the cold, synthetic mechanical parts. He has worked on other concepts including prehistoric skulls such as a T-rex and saber-toothed tiger. Alan is looking forward to producing the second design in the next limited edition run of speakers, after the success of this campaign. 

Don't worry it's not real

Many of you have asked why are we using a skull, and more importantly where are we getting them. Don't worry! We're dark but not THAT dark. This is NOT a real skull. No animals were harmed in the making of this speaker. 

Kranio is 3D modeled in several components and then hand-painted with incredible detailing and weathering effect to make it look like a real relic... from the future.

Alan grew up with series such as Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, and games like Cyberpunk & Shadowrun. He drew inspiration from these cyberpunk influences to create a collectible speaker as his personal project. Kranio is a Bluetooth hi-fi speaker encased in a hand-painted lynx skull casing. The cyberware outlasts the meat, only its soul remains. You can almost hear it when you play music on Kranio...

We appreciate your support on Kickstarter, so we want to create something special for you, available only during this campaign. Each Kranio's encasing is hand-painted. Our expert artists work on detailing and weathering to create a decayed look. Mass production kills the soul of a product, so we believe in handcrafting every single Kranio. Since this is manually painted, there is a limit to how many Kranios we can produce.

Thus, we decided to make this a very limited run. Alan wants to share his designs with like-minded people, but his creative mind wanders on quickly to the next crazy idea. He has a few other designs in mind for his next project, including a T-Rex that some of you mentioned. 

The future is exciting! We don't want to be a wet blanket but we still have to remind you that the success of this campaign will determine whether we have the resources to produce the next version. So we need your help to make this a successful campaign. Show Alan that there's a group of people out there who share his vision and good taste in product design.

Alan Wong is a designer in Hong Kong. Kranio is his personal project to create a speaker that breaks away from the current trend in product design. It is also an experiment in embracing the beauty of the past and speculating about the future.

A seasoned industrial designer, Alan has won numerous Red Dot and Red Star Design Awards to his name. When he is not working on client projects, he spends his time creating his own product designs for leisure. Friends who have seen the Kranio prototype love it and encouraged him to share this sick design with people who love this style and believes in capturing the soul of product design and music.
