Help reach £15k today!
OK, maybe our initial target was ambitious... but the great news is that with your support we are well on our way to getting the prototype kranog up and running. We just need to reach £15k today! With other investors lined up to double your contribution, when this campaign ends in a few hours time we will then move into phase 2 of the funding process. This will involve finalising the supplier and installation orders, interior design plans and time schedule so that we can take confirmed forward bookings.
So don't delay - contribute today and together we will make eco-cabin history!
The Kranôg - off grid living with nature, anywhere!
Hello! We are Andrew and Fiona, two Scottish entrepreneurs passionate about changing the world of holiday accommodation, especially the lodge and mobile home sector. We would love you to join us as we build the prototype Kranôg!
The cabin of the future, now
The Kranôg brings together existing off-grid technologies to create something that has never been done before: a luxury, design-led, off-grid cabin, utilising 100% renewable energy and rainwater and making zero harmful emissions to the environment. As the design is modular and doesn’t need intrusive foundations, it can easily be located anywhere using normal farm machinery (no cranes necessary!) and it falls within ‘light touch’ mobile-home planning regulations. This means that it also opens up new possibilities for rural and remote communities to earn a living from tourism without spoiling the landscape and environment that visitors come to enjoy.
Sustainable, design-led, celtic roots
Inspired by ancient Scottish bronze-age dwellings (Crannogs), the Kranôg is designed to connect people with their environment; visually, but also by challenging guests to think about how they use resources. Guests will be able to easily monitor their power and water use. If they are running low they will be able to top up using a manual pump, or reduce electricity consumption by turning off devices.
The unit is 100% Scottish designed and built. It is built to last, with a certified design life of at least 80 years. We are especially proud of the toilets: the guest just sees a normal clean flushing toilet. But follow the pipes and you come to a box of magic where native creatures will be going about their business to dispose of your business!
The exterior design of the prototype Kranôg is largely wood and is unashamedly clean and minimalist so that the natural environment can take centre stage. Large areas of glass, covered and outside plaswood deck made from recycled plastics ensure that you are fully connected to your natural surroundings. The prototype will also feature a wood-fired hot-tub. It will be sited with stunning views of the hills surrounding Comrie Croft and good privacy from the surrounding vegetation and landforms.
The prototype interior is being designed by one of Scotland’s leading young designers. She will create a quirky, cosy, and luxurious feel, while keeping it healthy and highly practical as a base for outdoor activities and families. Materials used will mostly be up-cycled, such as old bike parts, and natural materials.
Your part?
The first prototype Kranôg will cost £150,000 to build. That includes minimal site preparation, off-site prefabrication, installation and interior design. Funding has been secured from our partners, but we still need £70,000.
We have a range of unique perks that you won't find anywhere else, for anyone who is able to contribute. These include eco-luxury breaks in the Kranôg itself, or perks that make an ideal gift such as tree planting and your name (or the name of a loved one) inscribed on the Kranôg Founders Wall.
Every £ raised will go towards the prototype Kranôg even if we don’t reach our funding goal. In that scenario we may have to take on personal loans ourselves – whatever happens we are 100% committed to making this happen.
Our approach has been to pre-empt the risks to this project. A maximum price contract is in place for the build – this means that the total cost cannot go above £150,000, but cost savings may be possible. If we do save costs we will invest these in additional features. The Kranôg is specifically designed to fall within the same ‘light touch’ regulatory framework as mobile homes. Specifically, we have made sure that the Kranôg will comply with planning, building and environmental health regulations and we have the professional backing to ensure it will continue to do so as the project progresses.
Join us!
Besides the 'money can't buy' perks, join us in this endeavour and you will be doing a lot of good: Helping to develop two Scottish businesses (Kranôg Ltd and Comrie Croft Ltd) with strong social and environmental goals; and introducing a world first in the cabin and mobile-homes market that could make a difference to communities and the environment around the world.
Our track records are ideal for this project: Kranôg Ltd is a young company with strong foundations in responsible tourism. Comrie Croft is an award-winning community of eco-rural enterprises. The Croft has built a reputation for sustainable stewardship of the land and environment, and maximising community social and economic benefit. We are doers who get things done!
You can still support the Kranôg even if you can’t contribute financially – sharing this campaign on your social networks will give the campaign a big boost. Use the Indiegogo share tool and help us make some noise about our campaign!
