Our Story
About 20 years ago, Janet and Randy were laying in bed, thinking about how they would spend the summer and Janet said "Let's make an adventure for the kids! Like a buried treasure or or something." The Legend of Zelda had just come out and they ended up spending a hundred hours creating a three-week Zelda-like adventure that was a great hit. The finale evening ended up being one of those nights when a family really bonds and the memories are treasured for ever. They decided all families and friendships should have such an experience available to them.
They started out doing single-day events which customers loved, but it was just too much work to set up an extravagant adventure for a single day at a rate that people could afford, so, after finishing business and theater degrees, they decided to try a new model: set up a world that family or friends can explore together in a way that is exciting, fun, and helps to cement relationships. Leave this world in place for two-three months so many can experience it and then move it to a new location. Apocalypse is our first production in this new type of entertainment format. We are so excited to present this to the public as we love helping people find fun and joy!
What We Need
We have almost our entire production already built and staged at a private location for testing, but during covid we came up with more ideas for more amazing-ness that need to be funded.
- We still have one difficult costume to build which will run about $800. In addition, we need a $200 light and about $800 for some special effects. And $2,000 to pay move-in and rehearsal wages.
- If we fall short - we will use credit, but would much rather pay cash:)
- If we have extra - it will go to dress rehearsal, press night, and any new ideas we get!
The Perks
Some of our perks can only be used in San Diego East County in our staging area from 11/4 through 12/5/2021. (While you are having the time of your life, we will be checking timing, sound, etc.) These are, for the most part, pretty flexible time-wise; you will simply email or text a couple of times that you are available to attend and then you will get a confirmation with the details. These are as follows:
Be the First to Experience
Attend the Production for 2
Be in our Commercial
Attend whole production for 8
The rest of the perks will be available for any location: San Diego, Phoenix, LA, or Salt Lake City. These will be in location with complete functionality and full staff.
The Impact
Not only are our shows set up in a way to encourage memory making, but there is always a subtle, yet meaningful message. It's the type of thing some might miss, while others will get it stuck in their heads and find it great fodder for discussion later. Apocalypse's message is one of unity and being non-judgmental (two different characters have opposite opinions on how something should be handled, but after knowing their stories the audience will sympathize with both.)
Risks & Challenges
There are few risks to this show getting up and running since it is already 95% complete. The biggest risk is a covid flare-up, but this show's audience size is only eight people who usually hang out together anyway, so the risk is minimal. However, we do foresee some challenges:
- Finding a space that can be leased for short-term. To over-come this challenge, we are actively taking note of Halloween stores in the area as these landlords obviously are open to a short-term lease.
- It takes about 25 people to run this production and there is a bit of a worker shortage right now. However, our team knows a lot of people who are willing to take on a short term job, not to mention actors and actresses tend to be looking for work at this time.
