Short Summary
Help sharpen the image of one of the most visible locations in town!
The Jimmy C. Draughn Aquatic Center in Valdese, North Carolina is a jewel of a facility. Renovated and named in 1999, the pool has seen use from people all over western North Carolina and the Unifour area. Over the years thousands have enjoyed it for cooling down in the summer or learning to swim any time of year. Five separate teams now call the Rec home: Valdese Torpedo (summer), XCell Aquatics (USA Swimming), Burke Stingrays (Special Olympics), Jimmy C. Draughn High School, and East Burke High School.
Now the center needs your help: After all of the years of swim lessons, swim meets, and birthday parties, the lane lines at the Rec are worn out. As a way to keep the pool functional and to meet the demands of the community in an effective way, it needs new lane lines.
What We Need & What You Get
Here's what we need, and, in return for your help, what you get:
- The funds will go to the purchase of 12 brand new 75-foot lane lines made by Kiefer and a storage reel for them to live on when out of the pool. These are some of the best lane lines on the market, and they will make an instant impact on the appearance of the pool.
- The new lane lines will be in the town colors: red, white, and green.
- Based on the amount you donate, you will receive exciting gifts showing your support for the Aquatic Center! Wristbands, t-shirts (Adult S-XL), towels, framed photos, and acknowledgement of your generosity in heat sheets are our way of saying thank you to our donors!
The Impact
Every year, the Jimmy C. Draughn Aquatic Center hosts all sorts of events, and the new lane lines will be recognized by visitors from all over:
- Children in swim lessons, and the parents who bring them
- Community members who enjoy lap swimming as a way to stay fit
- Aquacise classes
- The annual Valdese Sprint Triathalon
- Summer swim meets held by the Valdese Torpedo Swim Team
- High school swim meets hosted by Wildcat and Cavalier Swimming, including the Rudolph Relays and the Cavalier Last Chance Meet
- The Stingray Invitational meet for Special Olympics teams
- Swimmers escaping the heat during the summer months
- Divers coming to earn their Scuba certification through Scuba Adventures of Rutherford College
Your support in helping the Jimmy C. Draughn Aquatic Center won't go unnoticed!
Other Ways You Can Help

- Tell people at church and at work!
- Tell people at the pool when you come to visit!
- Send in your pictures of you or your family enjoying the Rec for us to post with our campaign!
- Don't forget to try out the Indiegogo share tools!
With your help and support, we can meet our goal and show visitors to Valdese just how much we love our Rec and the Jimmy C. Draughn Aquatic Center in particular!
