As a person who spent 4 months trekking, building a tea house and living with a family in Nepal when I was 18 years old, I am deeply saddened by the tragic earthquake that hit recently. The people of Nepal are generous, kind and full of life and the culture is deep in my soul. The destruction they are facing is hard to fathom and rebuilding will be a long and difficult process.
My family and I are putting together a (very grassroots) walkathon on Saturday, May 16th at Lake Temescal at 11am. Please join us and walk to raise money to support the Nepali relief. Inspire your family and friends to sponsor you for each lap you walk (one lap is just under a mile). We'll give all our donations directly to Global Giving for Nepali earthquake emergency disaster and long-term relief www.globalgiving.org.
Following the walk 5/16, you can have your sponsors donate directly via our fundraising website here or give a check made out to the Red Cross to you. Please track your laps and sponsors. We'll finish the afternoon with a potluck picnic, so bring your picnic blanket and some food/drink to share. It is our promise, that ALL funds will go directly to the Red Cross Nepal for earthquake recovery, we promise.
Please let us know if you can join and please encourage your family and friends (and their family and friends) to come out! Or at least to support your walk by donating here. $5 a lap, $10 a lap, $15 a lap, anything. Our goal is $1000 combined for the day!
Please join us to help support Nepal, a country that is rich with culture and terribly poor. They need our help.
Hope to see you all on the 16th! We THANK YOU deeply for your generosity!
