Yup, it's our last issue ever
I started playa publishing back in 1995 – my third Burning Man ever. At first, we were called Piss Clear, and then, after a two year break, we became the BRC Weekly in 2010. But after 13 years of Piss Clear and 14 years of the BRC Weekly, I'm... exhausted! BMorg decimated Center Camp last year by getting rid of the Café, and it was EXTREMELY difficult to distribute the newspaper, and I expect this year to be no different. Plus, I'm sick of fighting with the Placement Team every year, who claim that our camp "isn't interactive enough" despite distributing 25,000 newspapers. We really get the impression that the BMorg only barely tolerates our presence there, and with the Center Camp Café gone, our distribution job is now 10 times harder. We can take a hint. Besides, it's 2023, not 1993. Newspapers are dying in every city in America – and Black Rock City is no exception.
I don't like begging for money like this
This will be my 30th Burn and besides being exhausted, I'm sad to say that post-pandemic, my career and livelihood are not what they used to be, and I'm no longer in an income bracket that can afford to attend Burning Man, much less pay for newspaper printing. Sadly, I've gotten "priced out." Even if I don't do a newspaper, I can't really justify the expense, and I don't really want to do IndieGogo campaigns every year just to do the BRC Weekly so I can go to Burning Man. So this is it!
We got some cute "incentive" perks
If you just want to throw some $$ or €€ my way with nothing in return but a dusty newspaper in your hands out in Black Rock City, that's great. But everyone likes cute shit to sweeten the deal, so please check out the various levels of perks. Different newspaper deliver methods (by mail or on playa), plus the 220-page Piss Clear book, Burning Man Live, which I'll even personally sign for you! And I'm doing a final print run of our "Black Rock City: Burn & Raised" T-shirts!
Thank you so much!
