Hello fellow filmmakers, it’s your old pal Rif, it’s been a minute! I’m writing you all to tell you some VERY exciting news. I’m about to start shooting my new movie on March 13th in LA. It's happening! And I’d love to invite you along to join me on another cinematic adventure. It stars legendary actor, Malcom McDowell, in what we believe is his long overdue Oscar role, and an exciting up-and-comer named James Paxton. Your contribution will help us take a great film and turn it into a truly spectacular one!! Our fearless leader, Emily Jillette, has generously offered to help get this message out to you all, so if you’re the least bit piqued, here’s the scoop...

In 1986 my mother, Michele Rifkin, wrote a beautiful screenplay called LAST TRAIN TO FORTUNE, which won PBS’, “Great American Western Screenplay Competition”. Set in the Old West, LAST TRAIN TO FORTUNE is about CECIL PEACHTREE, a British school teacher who’s traveling across the new frontier to the tiny town of Fortune where he will begin a new job as headmaster of the local schoolhouse. When CECIL misses the last train, he's left stranded in the middle of nowhere. To make matters worse, he’s held up by an outlaw named DOOLEY. Desperate, CECIL makes the desperado a deal; If DOOLEY agrees to escort him to Fortune by horseback, he can have CECIL’S entire teacher’s stipend, which is awaiting him upon his arrival. DOOLEY agrees to take CECIL on the two day journey and what unfolds is a heartfelt tale about the clash of two cultures: CECIL, an educated, Englishman who’s only lived his life’s experiences through books, and DOOLEY, an illiterate criminal who’s lived real adventures as an outlaw. After their harrowing adventures, CECIL and DOOLEY form an unbreakable bond.

THE HISTORY: Originally, the film was going to star Malcolm McDowell as Cecil, Bill Paxton as Dooley, was to be directed by Lindsey Anderson (IF…, O’ LUCKY MAN), and produced by me and Brad Wyman (MONSTER).  Sadly, just as things were gearing up for production, Lindsey passed on and the film was shuttered. Then, in 2017, just as we were discussing remounting the production again, Bill tragically died as well.

CUT TO - 2023: Recently, we all decided the time was finally right to make the movie. Malcolm will still play Cecil, but now, James Paxton has stepped into the role originally slated for his father and will be playing Dooley. And I will be directing. Unexpectedly, the financing fell into place very quickly and we are now set to begin shooting on March 13th! Everyone involved in LAST TRAIN TO FORTUNE loved Bill Paxton so much and we all feel honored to be able to support James, a young actor we all adore and believe in, by giving him this wonderful shot. We know Bill would be so proud of James and making this movie now, with this cast, is our love letter to our old friend Bill. And as a result, other actors who were friends with Bill, whose names you definitely know, have joined the cast in support of this sentiment. I can’t divulge who they are just yet, but we’re very excited about them and I will definitely let you know who they are as soon as I can. And I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how thrilled my mother is that the script she wrote 37 years ago is finally getting made.

Yes, LAST TRAIN TO FORTUNE is funded, the “train” has left the station and we start shooting March 13th no matter what, but please know, your generous contributions will enable us to realize our bigger, grander ambitions. With your help, we can turn this great film into something truly dazzling! Oscar caliber!! It's that kind of movie...Unlike with DIRECTOR’S CUT, we don’t have the infrastructure (i.e.Emily) to supply swag. No T-Shirts or gift bags this time, sorry. We want to make sure every dollar is seen on screen. BUT, we are more than happy to offer credits on the film, credits on IMDB and access to the set throughout the entirety of filming. And while I can’t offer the level of update we had during DIRECTOR’S CUT,  I can assure you that Emily won’t let me leave you in the dark. She has promised to get a short summary of each shoot day and let you know how it goes, as well as periodic updates once we hit post and distribution. As a result, we are only seeking 2 levels of engagement.

So with Emily’s help, and hopefully as many of you all as possible, I’m excited to be putting this band back together. A few of our DIRECTOR’S CUT donors have already joined on and they're actually the ones who originally suggested I invite you along. So let's walk down some red carpets together. We sure would love for you to be a part of this. Thank you for being open to reading my plea and I sincerely hope you’ll saddle up and ride with us!

Yeehaw!
