Short Summary
My name is Rupert Colegrave, i'm the director for 'Layers'. I am currently in my final year of university at Ravensbourne in London where I study Digital Film Production. Over the past three years I have worked on numerous films, with that experience I have gained the confidence to start writing and directing my own shorts.
I have been inspired by films such as Blue Valentine, The Lobster, Manchester by The Sea. These films show the break downs of strong relationships in front of beautiful location backdrops.
Growing a love for this style of film making I have been inspired to create my own story. We are campaigning to raise money for travel costs and equipment hire in order to make the film the way we vision it. We simply don't have the funds to do this on our own so we need your help!
With your help our production will be able to get our crew to and from Cornwall, pay for additional equipment and look after our actors. We will also be using your contributions to pay for accommodation for the cast and crew.
What We Need & What You Get
I am asking the Indie Go Go community and other aspiring creatives for £1,500. Myself and my Director of Photography are already putting up our own money, however what we have won't quite cover it.
Here is a list of a few things the extra contributions will go towards when producing 'Layers':
- Travel for Cast and Crew to Cornwall.
- Hire underwater housing for the camera.
- Safe accommodation for everyone and equipment security.
- Additional props and production design.
By contributing, you’ll gain access to some unique perks. We encourage you to read through all of them, however, here is a quick list of some of the things you could get if you contribute:
- Prints of the landscape (shot on film)
- Prints of the behind the scenes (shot on film)
- Digital download of the film score
- Executive producer credit
- Invite to a screening
- Everyone who donates will be given the opportunity to view 'Layers' online.
Even if we do not raise the total £1,500 your money won't go to waste as the film will still be made. Essentially any amount of money made will be put into the production to make it possible.
The Impact
We want this film to get us somewhere. I plan to use this film to get into the National Film and Television School and do an MA in Directing Fiction. Studying there would give me the opportunity have me future projects screened to industry professionals and be an amazing way into the industry.
We also plan to enter this film into BAFTA recognised film festivals. Recognition in these would boost mine and the rest of my teams profiles within the film industry. This may result in winning awards and being given more opportunities later on.
Risks & Challenges
To make this film it will be challenging. Being a very ambitious project we expect to have some minor issues. These issues will result on tiny costs that always come when creating the whole film. With the brilliant and experienced team behind me however I am curtain we will create an amazing film. We are filming in Cornwall, United Kingdom. Travelling from London will be a task to keep it affordable but it with the brilliant production team we are already well on out way of keeping these costs down.
Other Ways You Can Help
Thank you for reading our campaign!
We know that not everyone can contribute to the film. All that we ask is for you to share this with people you know, on social media and help us get the word out! Anything you do for us will be very appreciated.
Meet The Team!

Jed Darlington-Roberts | Director of Photography
'Layers' has been a project Rupert and myself have been working on for the better part of half a year. After shooting 'Trophy', we both agreed that we wanted to work again on something with a similar feel. I feel 'Layers' is a film that's really going to grab the audience. I've been making films and shooting photos for a number of years now, and from the experience of doing both I feel I've really gained an eye. I'm passionate about really incorporating some of the work I've shot for my stills onto my motion picture work.
