Over the last 13 years that I have been involved in the daily operations, I
have been searching for creative and impactful way to give back to our
community and the charities in- which our family has donated to passionately
over the years. Fast forward to today, our good friend Jim Na has been
honored as a candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman
of the Year fundraising campaign and set a goal to raise $100,000 over the
course of the next 3 weeks. In his own words, he has been “given an
opportunity of a lifetime to help others.” The profits from this campaign
will support the LLS mission to find cures for blood cancers and assist
patients and families as they battle the disease. Currently, leukemia
causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of
20. The picture that we chose for the campaign is a picture of the Na
family with Lucy, who at 6 years old has already gone through more than most of
us!
There are many reasons to be proud to support LLS’s efforts. For
instance, nearly 40% of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA between 2000
and 2013 were first approved for blood cancer patients, benefiting all cancer
patients. Since LLS’s inception 65 years ago, cures for many patients with
acute lymphoblastic leukemia and Hodgkin’s lymphoma have been achieved. Since
the 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have
doubled, tripled or even quadrupled.
This is an organization that is doing the right things with the dollars it
raises, and we are proud to be associated with Jim’s campaign for the Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society.
Like Jim, we feel we are being given an opportunity of a lifetime to help
others and are honored to contribute to his fundraising goal. That being
said, in honor of LLS and to help contribute to the campaign goal, our company
has pledged 2 items from our collection to help the Na Family move closer to
their goal of $100,000. For each of
these items, 100% of the profits will go towards the Na Family fundraising
goal. Item 1 is a 9-10 millimeter fresh water
pearl necklace that has been dyed to a red color, hand knotted and strung on a
silver clasp. Item 2 is an 8” 10-11 millimeter white freshwater pearl
bracelet which has also been hand knotted and strung with a sterling silver
clasp.
Why a pearl? The pearl is globally recognized as a symbol of hope and
shares the story of strength, perseverance, and inspiration. When a pearl
is formed naturally or cultured, layers of pearl nacre are formed to surround
an outside irritant such as a grain of sand as a defense mechanism. Over
time, the mollusk will form enough layers, creating a beautiful gem.
Regardless of whether we reach our fundraising goal we will donate 100% of
the profits of these items towards The Na family’s fundraising effort.
However, if we surpass our set goal of $20,000, the donation amount will climb
an additional 5% as the Indigogo handling fees will drop! While we have set the goal at $20,000, it is our hope that we can raise much more!
If pearls are not for you, we only ask that you pass this around to
your family and friends to help us with our efforts!
Thank you!!
