Our Story
I first came across the original script of "Life's a Drag" during my sophomore year at Point Park University in 2021 when the time came to select a screenplay for my Production Three course. For this course, students concentrating in Producing must select from a pool of scripts written by students from the university in a contest and pitch two to a board of Professors to determine which they will bring to life during their junior year. Immediately, I knew that Emily Brosky, the original writer, had created something special. I desperately wanted to produce the script, however, deep down, I knew that it deserved more than the allotted nine minute treatment the program allowed.
I decided not to pitch the script to the professors. Instead, I made sure no one else decided to produce it, and reached out to Emily asking to buy it from her. Thankfully, no one produced it, and Emily has been gracious enough to allow me to buy the script and rewrite it from being a tale about masculinity to a story of two brothers torn apart by circumstance and holding those we love the most accountable when they hurt us.
After four years of crafting the film, I feel now is the perfect time for this story to be brought to life. Times are dark and our voices are crucial to change. There is a great deal of hate and misunderstanding regarding not just the LGBTQ+ community but specifically Drag Queens. While the film I am making will not solve any of the countless issues they are facing, my hope is to create this film to make those who have been hurt feel seen. I am not a Drag Queen, but I admire their bravery and artistry, and the joy they have given me must be repaid. It is also my wish for this film to speak to siblings who may no longer have each other in their lives due to outside actors. Life can be a rollercoaster, but our experiences are near universal and sometimes; and sometimes a film can bring it all together.
Now that I am in the midst of my Masters program at Carnegie Mellon University and have grown as a person since acquiring "Life's a Drag," I have been itching to produce a film that will mean not just something to me, but something to those who watch it. Since I ramped up rewrites on the script, I have secured $4,000 from the Steiner Film Fund through Carnegie Mellon University, however, in order to properly tell this story, we need your help to raise an additional $6,000.
How You Can Help
The money raised so far will be put towards essential purchases such as production and equipment insurance, location permits, SFX for makeup tests; items we need in order to smoothly transition to production.
As this is a film featuring Drag Queens in beautiful outfits, with your generosity, we will be able to afford elements such as props, wardrobe, hard drives, catering/crafty, and other equipment costs for camera and sound.

Other Ways You Can Help & The Future
If you are unable to contribute a donation, you can still help us by sharing this campaign as well as our social media! Spreading the word about our film in any way is just as helpful to us as a financial contribution. After all, without your support, none of this would be possible.
Furthermore, the short film you are funding is acting as a proof of concept for a feature film version, the script for which is currently near completion.
Thank you for taking the time to read our campaign, and I offer my deepest gratitude for any donations you may provide.
