Lighten the Load: Support Syrian Mothers With Baby-Slings
Help us produce more than 100 baby slings for people fleeing war and persecution.
The humanitarian problem
Over the last days, thousands of Syrian refugees are entering Croatia and the Balkans in search of safety. We want to help these people — and especially mothers — who are carrying children to safety in their own arms. Babies may be small, but their extra weight adds up quickly without proper support. Refugees on the Balkan route (illustrated below) are traveling more than 3000km to reach refuge, often on foot. They're also carrying their supplies, including food and water, as they move. Imagine how much you'd appreciate an extra hand!
We need to assist people in need
Our partners have already begun collecting used baby slings, but there are many more mothers who need our help! We want to fund more than 100 strong, non-toxic baby slings made by a women-run textile cooperative Kamensko. We're aware that these baby slings won’t stop this humanitarian catastrophe, but it will ease the way for the most vulnerable group — mothers and babies — to reach their destination safely. This means not only less weight in mothers’ arms, but also an opportunity for you to feel more human.

We can do it with your help
Help us! Just 20€ (23$) will allow us to buy the material to produce one baby sling in collaboration with our partners in Kamensko, a women-run textile cooperative. Make sure that every new baby-sling will put a smile on the faces of these brave mothers. We believe a successful campaign will encourage organizations around Europe to start sending us used baby carriers. And even if we don't reach our goal, ALL the collected money will be used to produce baby slings.
We will deliver baby slings to refugees throughout Croatia and the Balkans in collaboration with our partners.
Since this is a humanitarian campaign, you will receive very good karma in return for your generosity. Guaranteed. In addition to this unbeatable reward, we are offering some interesting perks:
And if you are broke?
If you cannot provide a monetary contribution but still want to support the campaign, we would be very grateful if you could share and spread the word about this campaign by using the buttons below. The official hashtag is #LightenTheLoad!
You can also donate used baby slings directly to the address of our main partner, nonprofit organization Roda: Udruga Roda, Čanićeva 14, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia.
The team behind the project
Our team consists of Talal and Sarah from Syria and Kristina and Marko from Croatia with the support of Batul, Bojan and Antonia. We are part of Brodoto, a non-profit enterprise based in Croatia with a mission to accelerate social change. As individuals and as organization we have a long track record of starting and supporting campaigns for social good. This campaign is part of our pro bono work so ALL the money raised will be invested in the project itself. Read more about BRODOTO.
