Hello, and thanks for checking out my project. Lionheart Tales is a 52 page black and white comic with a full color cover, continuing the adventures of the intrepid feline investigative reporter who covers the world of mobsters, movie stars, aliens and super heroes. I wrote and drew hundreds of pages of humorous comics in the 80s and 90s for Eclipse, Fantagraphics, Mirage and a few others. Lionheart first appeared in Fantagraphics' funny animal anthology Critters in 1985; the last appearance of Lionheart was in 1995, in the pages of Usagi Yojimbo.
Nearly twenty years later I decided to return to the character and create the first new pages of comic art I had crafted in decades. I wanted to connect some dots from the earlier adventures while covering some of what happened to Lionheart in the years he's been out of print. The new story features talking appliances, a disembodied super genius, a possibly psychic monkey, an overzealous mouse with super powers, and aliens, both gelatinous and crablike.
Lionheart Tales 2014 features 36 pages of brand new black and white art and a 16 page reprint of classic material that relates to the new story. I am delighted to include a rear cover illustration by the brilliant Stan Sakai, featuring Lionheart and Usagi Yojimbo almost side-by-side. The artwork on this book is 99% complete, and now I want to raise enough money to self publish a few hundred copies. And give people a chance to own some nifty original art.
Perks include PDF downloads of older Lionheart stories including a
special full color version of Lionheart's debut tale, Zany But Deadly. Original art boards and sketchbook pages, including Stan's superb drawing, are available at higher perk levels for contributors.
