ABOUT LONE STAR
Four years ago, a few creative Texans met in
New York City. Still struggling to find a theatre home, they decided to build
it for themselves. Since then, Lone Star has built an active community of
theater artists and audiences--people from Texas, people who love people from
Texas, and people who wish they were from Texas.
Lone Star has
developed the work over 25 playwrights through its Texas Reads Series, presented
the work of 4 composers in the annual Concert Series, and fostered dozens of
new artistic collaborations through our community events.
THIS SEASON
This year marks the
beginning of Lone Star's Artist in Residence Program. Our inaugural Robert
Askins Playwriting Fellows are Alan Charnock, Nilsa Reyna, Judith Leora, Emily
Comisar, Benjamin Wright, and David Davila.
Here's our line-up:
Alien Sex Comedy by
Alan Charnock (November 19th)
David Davila and the Magic Time Machine by David Davila (January
25th)
Switzerland by Emily Comisar (February 22nd)
Showpony by Judith Leora (March 21st)
4th Annual Texas Reads Short Play Festival (April 18th)
COMMUNITY FIRST
From the beginning,
Lone Star was never just about the art. We firmly believe that
creating space for artists and audiences to build personal relationships with
one another improves the entire theater experience. That's why
the first Monday of every month, we host Lone Star Happy Hours. Everything we
do, we do with a little bit of flair and a whole lot of Texas hospitality.
THE BUDGET
The $3000 raised here
will cover our programming budget for the season. There are four readings
scheduled (a total cost of $1,500) and one concert (another $1,500). We will be
engaging in other fundraising activities through-out the season to cover
administrative and overhead costs.
