Loria is Classic RTS game inspired by the golden era of strategy games and a love of the classic Warcraft series. Loria aims to take the best concepts from the RTS classics and create a modern user-experience, intelligent AI, smooth controls, pleasing visuals and many hours of quality content that present even experienced players with an honest challenge!

Loria is Classic RTS game inspired by the golden era of strategy games and a love of the classic Warcraft series. Loria aims to take the best concepts from the RTS classics and create a modern user-experience, intelligent AI, smooth controls, pleasing visuals and many hours of quality content that present even experienced players with an honest challenge!

The Game introduces a lot of new ideas and plenty of RPG elements. Some examples are quest driven missions, heroes, veteran units and a focus on decision making that affects each playthrough!

Giving the game replay-value is very important for us and we think that great story telling, hours of fun gameplay, dozens of hidden easter eggs and engaging quests is the way to achieve this!

Features & Goals:

Levelable Heroes

Your hero will progress and evolve through the game along with your own skills. Collecting powerful items, learning new abilities and accomplishing quests. Heroes will become the heart of your army, leading your soldiers towards the battle!

Veteran Units

Units are promoted to veterans as a result of combat experience. Your units can be promoted several times, gaining special ability and increasing their skills & attributes. If you manage to keep your soldiers alive long enough, you will get one badass squad of veterans, slicing through your enemies like knife through a butter.

Secrets & Easter eggs & Fun!

The main story lines in Loria will be serious and well written. However, we are planning to add plenty of easter eggs, jokes and hidden quest-lines for you to find. All with the intent of lightening the mood and bringing something unexpected into the game. We are going to create a colorful palette of surprises for you. There will not be a dull moment in land of Loria!

Improved AI

90s classics were great for their time. Unfortunately due to hardware limitations, the AI was usually rather boring and predictable. We want to create an intelligent AI system that can surprise you, react to your tactics and present even experienced players with an honest challenge!

Improved Controls

One of our goals is to make sure that the gameplay feels smooth and polished. We are adding plenty of shortcuts, features allowing you to group, command and interact with both your units and the world in an intuitive and seamless way. No more clunky controls!

RPG Elements

We have already introduced many RPG elements to the game - hero units, collecting beneficial items, reactive environments and quest lines that can be completed only with your hero. But we are just getting started! There are plenty of ideas waiting to be implemented.

Decision Making

Do you enjoy games where your decisions actually matter? Where you can decide to finish a quest line in more than one way, and based upon that decision, gain different allies or objectives? We do. And we certainly want to implement this feature into Loria. The story will not limit you to just one path!

Strong Story

It is one of the hardest goals to make enthralling and interesting story. However it still is one of the main goals We are hoping to achieve. Most of the funding will be spent towards writing a good story that people will enjoy and get invested in!

Multiple Environments

Plenty of asset kits are being prepared to create many unique environments. So that the battlefields, dungeons and forests never feel dull. There will be always something new and beautiful to look at!

Well all that talking about how great the game will be made me thirst for some action! Can I actually see some gameplay?

How Will We Spend The Money

Indiegogo & Rewards

Only 5% is dedicated to indiegogo - which is standard indiegogo fee. Though it is common to give out plenty of physical rewards, our first and last interest is the game itself. Physical rewards are limited to minimum, so most of the funding is savored towards making the game top-notch. And time saved towards developing the game, instead of packaging and other busy work related to creating physical rewards. We are sure that great game is the best reward for chipping in for our funding.

Graphics

Most of the funding will be spent on graphics, so Loria can be the prettiest classic RTS ever! Plenty of gorgeous animations, spells and unit variations, but also many easter egg animations and colorful environments. We want to make sure that Loria will be graphically flawless and also fun to watch! All the graphic sprites are hand drawn and it is a lot of work!

Music & SFX

SFX and music will be as accurate to the 90s style as possible. We have been in contact with a few great voice actors and freelance composers that want to contribute to our project. A part of the funding will be dedicated to pick the right person to compose the music. As we feel that an original soundtrack is vital for achieving the atmosphere.

Story

Among the best things that we remember about classic games was the story. If the story is well written and executed, it makes the game enthralling and thus gives it replay-value.We will be dedicating a significant amount of the project's finances to storywriting in order to achieve this.

Development

Well wait, what about development? Is 15% of funding enough? Since this is our love child, we have decided to develop the game without paying any salaries, ensuring that there will always be enough funds to cover all the other requirements, like story, music and art! All the development money will be spent on independent testers and quality assurance.

25k - Basic Goal

  • 2 campaigns ( 1 per faction )
  • 3 unique heroes per faction
  • 8 missions per faction ( minimum )
  • Skirmish mode with at least 10 maps
  • 5 various environments - Chaos, Summer, Winter, Badlands, Dungeon
  • 8 buildings per race - 10 units per race - composed of ships, flying units and ground units

30k - Art Perfection

We will bring another level of detail to all of the characters! This process is long and tedious, but it is worth it!

With an extended budget for art, many more unit variations can be created & tested, to give the game more diversity.

35k - Multiplayer

Multiplayer will be a lot of work to implement, so it is not a part of the basic goal. The reason for this is that we want to primarily focus on Loria's campaigns. However, even if this funding goal is not reached - we will explore ways of adding multiplayer once first goal is reached and game starts earning some money, so the game will be able to pay for multiplayer itself.

45k - New Faction

What can make a game more interesting than adding another race! Once this goal is reached, we will create a unique new race with accompanying campaign and of course include it in the multiplayer & skirmish game modes. But what race will be added? The community decides!

55k - Co-op Campaign

Unfortunately, many modern RTS games do not include co-op campaigns. We love being able to play with our friends and will thus add this functionality upon reaching this goal.
Co-op campaign will be designed for 2 players.

80k - Free To Play

At this point we believe that we have more-than-accomplished our vision for Loria. Since there is no reason for additional funding, the game will be released free for all RTS fans to enjoy!

100k - Codes are Released

We will release the game source, so we all can look forward to playing more quality 2D RTS games! This will enable anyone to create their own strategy with Loria’s engine!

Every couple of years, I like to replay all of my childhood classics. And my Warcraft 1 playthrough was long overdue. So I installed the game excited to feel the same way as when I was a child. But due to various software issues and latter UI, AI and controls problems with warcraft 1 it felt more like a hard work to play the game! So I ended up watching a playthrough on youtube instead. It was great and it did bring a lot of good memories to the surface.

At some point through watching the gameplay, there was a spark. I wanted to create my own game - Loria, which will bring out the best of the RTS classics, but improving on the tedious gameplay and AI.

Sure, Loria is heavily inspired by Warcraft series. When one says classic RTS, I immediately think of warcraft. It has had a great influence over how I think of classic RTS games. So you can surely see the influence it has over me and thus Loria. But I am also hoping to bring so much more to Loria, not just clone an existing game. You can read more about that in the ‘About' section of this page.

Loria is created in classic top-down view. All the art you can see is drawn by hand and animated manually. Frame by frame, animations are created and customized for each character, to allow for truly unique visual experience.

Loria uses vivid but not intrusive or distracting colors. Creating truly pleasant and balanced view on the game.

Loria was inspired from graphics of Warcraft 1, however Loria offers higher resolution of sprites, clear definition of features and hint of 3D perception of space.

Even with the wallpapers and portraits Loria stays authentic. The wallpapers are done in low resolution - 480x320 and are made as pixelart. Then in-game, the wallpaper is stretched to fit appropriate size, thus giving you the right feeling of 90s classic.













Voice Acting

Most of the Loria voice acting, was bought from various asset sites. After releasing the first demo, We got lucky enough to be contacted by few talented voice actors. New phrases, texts and voice recordings are added each day and voice palette of Loria is starting to fill out nicely.

Music





Loria started out as a small after-job hobby almost a year ago. And from the beginning there was just me, one person doing all the coding. The initial idea of the game was much more simple than it is today. Create really small RTS, for personal benefit and pure joy of creation.

With time I started to perceive the project more and more seriously, hiring artist to do all the sprites, searching for right voice recordings, buying and combining right assets. And as the game started to get more clear and specific shape, I knew I want to finish the game for general public. I fell in love with the idea. Released first demo and the response was fantastic. The feeling of satisfaction, that people like something you created with your own resources and wits, was exhilarating.

So here I am, with product I would love the spread, but with plenty of sprites, audio and screenwriting & art required. Too many for myself to fund. And I am asking for help, to let me create game that can be enjoyed by thousands of classic RTS fans.
