The innovative LUXES bracelet features patent-pending technology that simulates your skin’s reaction to UV radiation in your surroundings, reminding you to apply or reapply proper sun protection.

LUXES bracelet is an innovative, durable ultraviolet radiation monitor that displays the amount of your UV radiation exposure. LUXES bracelet provides an easy to understand indicator to show you that UV radiation exists in your surroundings, so you can apply proper sun protection to prevent sunburn, wrinkles, and skin cancer. LUXES bracelet works in all weather conditions and even under water.

LUXES consists of a bracelet and a UV activated insert. LUXES uses a proprietary smart material to create the UV activated insert. The silicone rubber-based smart material will darken in color when exposed to UV radiation to simulate human skin reaction to UV radiation. The color changing action is reversible when the smart material is removed from the UV source.

Users can apply a small amount of sunscreen onto the LUXES’s UV activated insert to track the effectiveness of the sunscreen. The sunscreen will block the UV radiation and keep the UV activated insert from changing color. When the sunscreen naturally breaks down, the color will slowly begin to darken to alert users to reapply sunscreen.

We’re two software engineers from the Silicon Valley cubical farm who are passionate about sun safety. We have friends and family members who have been diagnosed with skin cancer. It is important to us to develop a simple and cost effective solution to detecting UV radiation exposure and keeping track of our sunscreen’s effectiveness.

After months of researching different cell phone apps and electronic sensors for UV detection, we realized our own skin has the best UV detection mechanism. It made sense to us to create an artificial skin to simulate the sunburn reaction 100 times faster to remind the user to apply / reapply sun protection. We knew it would not be an easy task, but we accepted the challenge.

We spent months researching and studying different methods, and with lots of research and the help of the Internet, we developed this new material that will darken under UV radiation just like our skin. The LUXES bracelet was born.

When all this started, we only had one goal: develop an easy to use UV monitoring device to help a 5-year old understand the importance of sun safety. After months of researching, developing, and prototyping, we created a new Smart Material that will darken when exposed to UV radiation to simulate human skin reaction to UV radiation.

We have overcome many challenges to get the LUXES bracelet working the way we want. And now, we need your help to take our project to the next level.We want to reach out to more people and spread the word about sun safety.

Manufacturing Schedule

Manufacturing

A unique challenge for LUXES UV activated insert using our proprietary Smart Material. We have spent months working with a manufacturer in California to develop and implement a manufacturing process for the UV active Smart Material. The manufacturer we are working with has produced for the world’s top brands and they have the capacity to further develop a scalable manufacturing solution for LUXES bracelet. We live near the production facility so we can personally oversee the manufacturing process.
