We are raising money for the production of our short film Macto. The production is a period piece that explores the landscape of Roman Britain in 40AD. The piece pays homage to this epoch in time. We want an authentic look capturing the costumes and set as they should be. For this production we are using Yorkshire and Snowdonia for external shots. Which will involved taking a 25 member team to North England. We have already done the film recce out of our pockets so all moneys will be going towards the actual production... Covering fight training, horse riding lessons, technicians, art design, props, costumes, transportation, feeding the team, rental of studios for indoor shots and post production.
The director and producers aren't taking any wages all moneys are going towards the line production of the film!
Macto: An Overview
The film focuses on the life of Macto a Latin man of lower class, trained from young to be a Roman
soldier.
He was forced to submit to Roman upbringing after witnessing his family murdered by the Roman
army which destroyed his village.
Macto subsequently gain a sense of closure to his families slaughter by secretly killing the soldier
who murdered his mother but he remained loyal to Rome. Seeing Rome as what he now
considered the 'future'. All he knew was bloodshed and the art of killing.
The idea of Rome and
glory is one that Macto has learnt to romanticise but as time passes Macto grows weary of the
pursuit of glory in battle. He begins to yearn for inner peace.
Macto slowly becomes recognised among his peers by his ability to become an unstoppable angel
of death on the battle field... But because Macto is of low class and not a true Roman by blood, he
is hindered from ascension to a greater vocation in society. His heart becomes increasingly
conflicted about Rome.
Unknowing to him, he captured the heart of Isaliah. The daughter of Soliti (an aid of the Roman
senate) who is living in Roman Britain over seeing the establishment of the political landscape of
Roman governance!
Isaliah pursues Macto. The love relationship that develops between them changes their views on
Roman society.
Their relationship becomes a secret symbol of rebellion against the idea of Rome.
All secrets eventually are learnt, theirs come into the light of her father who is outraged by the idea
of his daughter and a low ranking soldier as Isaliah is betroth to marry the son of a high ranking
Roman official. In his disgust and anger, Soliti plots the death of Macto. A plot that goes terribly
wrong ending in tragedy.
