MAD Company is an artist-driven collective that produces and performs timely works, rooted in the desire to empathize and understand the spectrum of human emotion.
The company was started by friends and former classmates of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts's (LAMDA) MA in Classical Acting program, many of whom settled in New York City following graduation in 2020.
Over the past year MAD Company has produced a variety of pieces, including a fully staged production of Romeo and Juliet, an audio production of Frankenstein, and multiple new works projects. MAD Company has also hosted and facilitated multiple community events around the NYC-area.
Known for its timeless themes, memorable characters, comedic accessibility and witty humor, William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is a fan-favourite for good reason!
Twelfth Night tells the story of twins, Viola and Sebastian, who are separated following a violent shipwreck. Viola disguises herself as a young man, Cesario, so that she may work for the Duke Orsino. Complications arise, however, when the woman of Orsino’s affections, the Countess Olivia, falls in love with Cesario. Mistaken identities, romantic confusion, and comedic hijinks ensue…
MAD Company is thrilled to be producing Twelfth Night for its sophomore season of shows and, come opening night, we have a strong feeling that you’ll feel that way, too!
MAD Company is attempting to raise $12,500 in order to pay the artists and collaborators who will be working on this production. At MAD Company, we believe that artists deserve to be fairly compensated for their time, effort, and skills, so we are asking for your help; every dollar raised here will go directly towards artist payments, ensuring that no artists involved in this project will otherwise be unable to participate because of financial considerations.
Actors, designers, directors, and managers are just a small section of the many people who will work on a project of this size, and all are integral to the creation of theatre. While the actors, musicians, and others who will have a stage presence are the most visible and recognizable artists involved, we fully appreciate the talents and abilities of the (often) less-seen members of the creative teams and know that they are as deserving of financial compensation as all other creatives.
MAD Company plans to produce performances that will spark conversation and encourage audiences to engage with narratives outside of their lived experience. Thanks to your generous contribution, we will be able to stage these stories in a way that honors the complexity of their themes and subject matter.
