Short Summary
Our world turned upside-down a week after our son turned 5-years-old. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and we failed miserably to manage his disease - mostly because we were duped into using a treatment method that leads to constant crisis management and misery for our son. It wasn't until we hit rock bottom with life-threatening blood sugars when we were finally introduced to the idea of managing his disease using a low carb diet.
It makes sense, right? If you have diabetes, you need to take insulin when you eat carbs, so eating fewer carbs and taking less insulin should be safer? Shockingly, this is the exact opposite approach of what most families are taught.
This film explores the efficacy, sustainability, and empowering joy of being able to achieve normal blood sugars. You will intimately get to know several families, children, and adults who have repeated the success of using a low carb lifestyle to manage diabetes in their own unique lives.
Why does this matter? Current research shows that women who developed type 1 diabetes before the age of ten years die an average of nearly 18 years earlier than women who do not have diabetes. Men in the corresponding situation lose almost 14 years of life.
This is LIFE. Years of adulthood that we aren't willing to sacrifice for our children.
By joining our team and our movement, YOU will be making a profound change in the lives of thousands of people with diabetes.
What We Need & What You Get
We are seeking to raise enough money to finish the film. We have listed $50,000 as our goal, but realistically we will need more. There are still several remaining topics that we would like to explore, and with your contribution, we can make sure that the whole story is told. Diabetes is a disease that requires intense education for families and patients, and we want to make that easier for them by narrating as many topics as we can in the film.
We're offering some exception perks to supplement your donation! Check them out on the right side of this page. Any donation in any amount is so greatly appreciated, and it MATTERS.
ALL funds raised go to the foundation, as the foundation owns the film. If the film were to ever make money, ALL of that money would also be retained by the foundation to help educate people with diabetes.
The Impact
"I absolutely love this post, and I am so grateful for what you’re sharing! I have been reading about low carb for several months and was anxious about how to make the change and if we could do it. Our son is 10 also and he was diagnosed almost 3 yrs ago. The last year has been a struggle on the roller coaster. One night a few weeks ago he hit 35 in his sleep and I won’t ever forget the fear I felt. I just knew there had to be a better way. If I didn’t change things, well, they would never change. We have been low carb for two weeks. I know it’s early, but his numbers are better and he feels better. It is a change that requires commitment and organization, but we are doing it!! ❤️"
There are families all over the world who have similar responses to their newfound strategy!
This is why we FORGE ahead!
Risks & Challenges
This topic can be divisive, and we know it. Our intent is never to judge but to offer families another way that they can manage their disease or their child's disease. It just may be the answer that they've been seeking.
If we can gain some momentum, perhaps there can be changes made to the current guidelines and alternative nutrition and insulin dosing education can be available to everyone.
