For the past four years, 'Magpie Magazine' has celebrated the new folk
revolution in art, writing and music.
Published annually, it
brings
together a collection of articles, short stories, poetry, illustration,
music reviews and interviews. Over the years, Magpie has grown
into something inspiring and unique, shaped by the incredible artists,
writers and musicians who
contribute to its pages. We now have ambitious plans for a fifth
edition and need your help to transform our collective ideas into
beautiful printed matter.
Please donate what you can afford, any amount will help tremendously, and the Magpie will bring you treasures...

What you say about Magpie
here are just a handful of responses we've received about past issues...
I'd read the first two issues of Magpie Magazine with great delight but have to say Issue 3 is your best yet. It's simply fantastic! Well done! And long may it live.--
oh I love reading it! the nest of magpie (the return address) is also very near where i'm from - it was like receiving a letter from home, but a secret letter full of magic and encouragement.
thank you for bringing all this art together.
--
The Magpie's here already, faster than I'd expect if she were coming from the next town over! And the colors are so glorious... I'm not finished reading her yet. I loved the Deer-Woman story, especially the sentence it starts with: I turned back to the previous page three times before I was sure it was really the first sentence.
The interview with Alessi is wonderful. Several of the things she recounts echo in me as a sympathetic vibration. We're so lucky to live in a time when a world-spanning harmonious family like this can be a reality, even though world-spanning horrors seemingly must also exist in such a time.
--
The whole issue is wonderful, like a small breviary for berryhunters and birdwatchers, a refuge for woodlanders and forest dwellers, interspersed with faint hints of music and other tunes much deeper than just music.
It's easily recognizable that you and all others put much effort into it and I know how hard it is to edit a zine these days, to prevent the individual strings of the contributions from diverging.
There is this one line in your interview with Alessi that stands out of the whole magazine: "inserting magic into daily life". Yes, that's what it does. At least for me it did. The story of the deer woman is particularly beautiful.
--
Your Magpie Magazine is very well conceived - It was pretty much what I had anticipated - which is to say every word (and I am alert to the words) seems to promote a way of life ~ an outlook if you will, that I found absolutely delicious, of course, being a writer of fairytales such as I am. And yet you clearly have the one foot firmly placed in the real world. BUT! It's on your terms. And that's what I loved about the magazine. The resoluteness of vision. Soft, gentle yet firm somehow.
