Personal Information:
I am Erin Lunsford Mendoza, a film/television production student at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. This campaign is to help fund my original short film that I have written and will be directing, "Majhool".
Story:
"Majhool", which means unknown in Arabic, is a 5 1/2 minute drama about 21 year old Mara whose suicide attempt puts her in a coma. Her unconscious mind is embodied by a world of abstract aesthetics, pulsating music, labyrinths toward self-discovery, and a mysterious friend, Majhool. When Mara awakes from her coma in the hospital she must face the person she felt she could never truly connect with yet could never avoid, herself. As she struggles to be understood by her mother, she finds that Majhool continues to meet her while unconscious as she sleeps, and in her subconscious through her sketches. The understanding of Dr. Akmal helps Mara process her wounds, both physically and emotionally and prepares Mara to be discharged from the hospital. As she wanders the halls of the hospital upon leaving, she discovers that the presence of Majhool may be a metaphysical phenomenon and an opportunity toward understanding herself and appreciating her own existence.

Film Funding Details:
This film is a 310 Production Class film and is to be funded by me- the writer/director. I am currently in the pre-production stages of this film as my production team and I begin casting and acquiring additional crew, location scouting, production design, storyboarding, etc. This film will be shot within 4 days, with production beginning February 22nd, 2014 and ending on March 2nd, 2014. Once we have wrapped, it will be in post- production for approximately another 4 weeks. The majority of my funding will go towards locations, set dressing, and creative collaborations. For the shoot, my crew and I will need to shoot at a hospital/ medical facility which will require a rental fee and permits as well as medical prop rentals.
What isn't spent on locations will be spent on hair and make-up as well as constructing the surreal world of Mara's unconscious mind where she meets Majhool. From there, the remainder of the funding will be used towards general production costs, from craft services to costumes. To show our donors appreciation, regular progress reports will be posted, to show where we are in production.
Everyone who donates will receive a DVD copy of the final film. In order to remain festival eligible, the film may not be posted online or on any form of social media platform.Thank you for your consideration, we are very excited about this project and cannot wait to begin!
