Make Me A Game Developer
Hi, I’m Brandon. I am a young guy with a boat load of attitude and a megaton of courage. I am a former English major and left college because I refuse to spend another moment of my life and dollar of my money on a career that doesn’t fit. Ever since I was a boy, I have had the long-standing dream of making a video game and for the longest time I lacked the belief in myself that I could overcome the math and computer science challenges that lie before someone traveling this path. Recently, I had an “ah-ha” moment and the light bulb went off - Life is too short to waste a moment of your life doing something other than what you were put on this earth to do. This campaign will fund my way into doing what I was put on this earth to do: make video games.
What I Need
In order to turn this dream into a reality, I will need:
$6,000 for tuition (compared to 10’s of thousands for tuition at a traditional university)
$1,000 for a laptop that meets the prerequisites specified in the class
I have played and loved games since childhood. Now it’s time to transition from someone who enjoys games to someone who makes them - and I will bring all of that experience and passion to bear on my class projects.
If I make my funding goal, the money will go directly to my laptop and tuition - anything beyond that will cover gas and travel expenses to and from the school since it is an hour away.
What You Get
Depending how much you donate I pledge to send you a copy of the game my brother and I are working on and my three class projects.
You get the satisfaction of knowing that you gave a young person, who has the shine in his eyes to do great things, a chance to succeed.
The Outcome
The project that my brother and I are working on will benefit a lot of people - we will infuse powerful storytelling with a learning mechanic that will actually give players a skill they can bring to bear in the real world and enrich their lives.
Risks & Challenges
This 11 week course will not be easy. I hear things like “drinking from the fire hose” when it comes to how students feel in their first few weeks in the course. This “trial by fire” method is fantastic, and this microcollege is the first of its kind in the country. In short, this is a fantastic opportunity and I am poised to take full advantage of it. I had to take an aptitude test and passed - the only thing standing between me and the skills I need to make games is the funding.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can’t contribute any funds, I would appreciate you sharing my information (and this page) with friends whom you think can. Any help at all, monetary or otherwise, is greatly appreciated.
