Following Margo MacDonald’s death on 4 April 2014, friends and colleagues have worked to make sure that her voice and her ideals, which inspired so many will continue to be heard in the referendum campaign.
Jim Sillars will this weekend (Sunday 13 July 2014) launch a public web based appeal to fund the “Margo Mobile”. A mobile campaign vehicle which will tour housing estates and working communities across Scotland, as a testimony to Margo’s political legacy, allowing campaigners to make the case for independence, in a way Margo would have relished.
The “Margo Mobile” will travel across the country from the beginning of August until polling day.
In addition, the campaign vehicle will tour with a mini bus which will transport a team of activists who will work in co-operation with Local Yes campaign groups. Leaflets and accompanying campaign material setting out the case for independence, will feature insights and comments from Margo.
Margo’s husband Jim Sillars said;
“Some of Margo’s admirers have already contributed to the project, but I urge all those who supported Margo, were inspired by her and wish to secure her legacy by ensuring a Yes vote, to make a financial contribution to the Margo Mobile”
Jim Sillars added;
“The recent Electoral Commission release on referendum finance, makes stark reading, “Better Together” has received over £2.4m compared with under £1.2m for Yes Scotland. This project will allow ordinary voters to redress the balance, by contributing whatever they can manage.”
