It's another comic about those teenage lager-guzzling Knights Templar stomping a path of righteous salvation through their backwater English town, cleansing it of its many social evils to avoid an impending biblical apocalypse. Watch gangsters, pimps, football hooligans and other deserving low-lives and weirdos getting savagely trampled under size 16 Doc Martens in this new 74 page collection of self-contained Mary Boys stories drawn in a style influenced by the likes of Jack Davis, Will Eisner and Wally Wood and written with an uncompromising and utterly irreverent punk attitude that made the first two Mary Boys comics (available to buy on this campaign) such a huge hit with readers.
Hi, my name is Karl “CHUBB” Stephan and I write and draw comics. I'm known for my graphic novel Sparko (published by Slave Labor Graphics) and the Mary Boys: Primal Wounds comics (self-published after being successfully funded right here on Indiegogo and published under my own PROPER COMICS imprint).
This is a new project written and drawn by me. It contains 4 self-contained stories featuring the eponymous Mary Boys and their curator the Catholic priest, Father Michael Parrish.
You don't need to have read the first campaign's comics to enjoy these stories, but if you want those books they are available to order in the Add-Ons section of this campaign when you place your order.
The four stories featured in this volume are:
1. The Liturgy - Every year Father Parrish and the Boys lead a procession to the river to keep a small flame of hope alive amongst Basham's destitute by whatever means necessary.
2. ASBOCON - The Boys attend Basham's first ever comic book convention, but find a distinct lack of true believers! Nuff Said!
3. A Special Day - It's football season and Basham's hooligans are prepared to pull every dirty trick in the book to help the home side win Sunday's match, but they soon find that they aren't the only ones planning shenanigans.
4. Dinky Jones is Dead - He was a member of one of Basham's most notorious crime families. All the family want now is a nice Catholic burial. Shouldn't be a problem, right?
Standard Cover:
The Mary Boys are quadruplets born with a rare genetic condition that causes enlarged hands and feet, distorted facial features and prevents sufferers from growing any body hair. Their condition also affects the way they metabolise alcohol, so drinking beer gives them almost superhuman strength and endurance (yet does nothing for their charm nor grace!).
The boys are from a backwater English town called Basham where they were raised by an old priest named Parrish. Many years ago Parrish was the victim of an attempted robbery which left him with a bullet in his skull and flashbacks to a past life when he was a member of the original Order of the Knights Templar of old. His visions foretell of a great biblical apocalypse befalling Basham should its inhabitants not be purged of their evil ways. Using his revived Templar fighting knowledge Parrish trained the Boys in the fighting arts of the Order and now these feisty teenagers spend their days bashing in heads for the greater good. The mysterious apparition of the Virgin Mary guides them in their quests and aids them in finding their targets.
These stories represent jet black British comedy that will appeal to fans of comics like Tank Girl, The Goon, Cerebus, TMNT, Marshall Law, Judge Dredd and TV shows like The Young Ones, Black Adder and The League of Gentlemen.
Like the books in the previous campaign, the covers and interior pages to this new collection will be traditionally illustrated using real media to insure that these comics have the classic old school look our readers enjoy.
With your help we continue to deliver Mary Boys directly into the hands of our readers. This way Mary Boys will be kept unruly, uncouth, unmitigated, unpasteurised, problematic, politically incorrect, soy-free and wholly independent for the foreseeable future.
There are loads of perks to be had for helping us bring this shiny new project into the world.
Apart from a hard copy comic, there are the highly acclaimed comics from the previous Mary Boys campaign, the Beefheads! Companion (which is made of sketches and notes on how the book was made), art prints, embroidered patches and original art to be had. Full details are listed in the perks section on the right and the Add-Ons section when you click on any of the perks.
All comics are printed oversize at 8.3 x 11.7 inches.
Perks will be shipped in corrugated mailers for maximum protection.
As far as experience goes, I already have one 175 page graphic novel and one fulfilled Indiegogo campaign done and dusted right on schedule despite the pandemic, so I am confident that I can see this project through to the end. Both covers and incentive art pieces have been drawn and all interior pages have been pencilled and lettered. All that remains for me to do is inking on the remaining 67 pages before we're ready to go to print.

We've benefited greatly from satisfied customers telling their friends about our comics, so if you enjoyed the first comics and are excited about this new campaign please let your comic-reading people know that the BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN!
