Why that campaign?
Hi! I am Achromi, a solo developper making Master Key. I am a huge fan of zelda and metroidvania games, and I love 1bit artstyle as well, so I decided to make a 1bit zelda-like with open progression.
I started this project alone ~3 years ago, and have since been working on it in my spare time. I love gamedev, but I can't do everything by myself: Noé Guiton makes the music and Antoine Denglos makes the promotional art.
That's why I am doing this Indiegogo. I want to be able to pay them for their work, and use the remaining money to give more polish to the game, by hiring artists to add cutscenes or redo sprites.
What is Master Key?
Master Key is a zelda-like with metroidvania elements, it features :
- Item-based and non-guided exploration
- A cute and compact world to explore
- Dungeons filled with deadly traps, puzzles and bosses
- Dozens of enemies
- Shops, weapons and upgrades
- 5 to 10h of gameplay, it depends on how much you want to do
- Many, many secrets
- There is not a single word in the entire game! (except the title, yeah)
What do you do in Master Key ?
The game doesn't hold you by the hand, it's a love letter to hiking and exploration, as well as old 2D zeldas (and other games) you have to find your own path and nothing in the game is story-gated.
The game starts as the player finds an old and mysterious rusty key, deep in a cave; no revenge, no princess to save, no bad guy to defeat, or is there?
Master Key's offers light narrative to focus on wonder, liberty and discovery.
The game will release (at least) on steam and nintendo's eshop.
Risks & Challenges
The game is on zero budget and I am working on it in my spare time, so it may not release before December 2022, it's unpredictable (maybe before).
