What is Maze, and what is the reason for this campaign?
Hello! This is Eli from TreeFall Studios! I am completely self funding this game, yet I need some funds to do a few non game related things such as upgrade equipment, that are vital to the game's success. Also stretch goals have and will be added depending on funds, which can make the game even better. If you think this looks cool, but still ask why should I donate if the game will be completed either way? Here are just a few of the many good reasons:
- It is basically like pre-ordering the game, there is a possibility that you will be scoring a download of the game up to a week before it even releases, cool right?
- You will get to take advantage of special perks only available to supporters of this campaign, if you are really into TreeFall and games, you will definitely receive some great rewards!
- Although funding is not necessary, it will help in tremendous ways, the more funds received, the game can be extended with some pretty nifty new things that were not originally planned!
- Although I have enough funds to be sustained while developing this game, funding would enhance and hasten our development. The PC I am currently working with is very old, more than 6 to 8 years old. It seems as if it is about to give out. Funds from this optional campaign will give me the ability to upgrade equipment quicker and make a better product. Less chance of losing progress:)
Maze is a First Person Puzzle/Adventure game in which you work your way through many different levels(mazes) to find the finish. You will collect coins, jump gaps, avoid spikes and environmental dangers, and dodge enemies in your attempt to find your way to the end of the maze.
*This game and it's elements are created originally and solely by Eli, not the entire TreeFall team.
*This is game is planned to release in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and possibly the PEGI regions of Europe.(If funding does not exceed 3,000 then Europe will be excluded) If you do not live in one of these intended regions, it is probably safer not to donate to get a copy of the game, as it may never make it into your region.
*All physical rewards are only shipped to areas within the United States, if you live outside of this area, please do not select a physical reward, as you will not receive it, thank you.
Story
Here is a brief look at the back-story surrounding the game:
In the year 2050, half-way through the century, humans have become massively lazy as they have become so dependent on technology. Different races of robots have taken the main position in leading the world. The robots do not see the point of human existence, as there contribution to their way of life is so minimal. A few humans have been selected for a training program. The program is called codename: Maze. The robots have created a series of levels that range in difficulty and challenges in order to decide whether or not humans still have the intelligence and ability to complete these puzzles. If a human can make it through all of the mazes in the program, they will spare the human race and all will be well. If no human can pass the test, their existence will come into question.
The Length?!?!?!
Hi there. If you have played The Letter, here are some things you should not need to worry about:
- The content. There are tons of mazes, between multiple worlds, bonus worlds, arcade modes, and possibly a multi-player mode. The mazes also present a fun challenge that can be quite enjoyable to play through again. You can also see how your friends fare with more difficult levels.
- There is a save feature, it is greatly needed as there are many different mazes. Right now, the worlds are set up with 10 levels each. I currently have planned four different worlds, and then a bonus world. In the bonus world the levels are not tied to the story of the game, These will be creative miscellaneous levels that are very different than the rest of the levels, some levels might even shout out to other games! :D
- I do not know how long it will take to beat this game as of yet, as it is still in development, but it is a full fledged game, with a much longer length than The Letter. I am not totally sure if it will be the longest game out there for it's price point, but it is going to be a meaty experience, especially compared to what TreeFall has released in the past.

Some Old Fashioned Checkered Grass and Dirt Textures :D

Example of a corner hallway in the ruins world, as you can see there are some coins shown, different plants and mushrooms!

Here is a a shot of the second level, introducing jumping into the mazes. You might turn a corner and bam! Gotta do some platforming :P

I think some of these little design touches are cute, I hope you agree!

Here is a shot showing a multi-story maze. I added some help though, as you can see different color bricks indicate different stories. This is in the very beginning and offers three different stories to explore. You can also notice some spikes in the corner, be careful trying to jump that!

Here is a shot showing a lot of the graveyard maze! This is level 4:D I did not want to show all of it...you might be able to solve it a little early haha! This level features different lighting, along with glowing objects that were different in daytime levels, and things like gravestones! Be careful not to get lost here!

Not all mazes are square in their origin, some will be made of many different shapes, here is one I am working on, one of the first non-square mazes!

Here is a quick shot of part of the first Hub-World. If you notice, each square pedestal area houses a different level. I will show a close up of what that looks like next.

Here is a close up of where you would enter level one! It has a 3D model of the maze that floats and circles. The name of the maze also floats and circles above it! You have to complete Maze 1, in order to unlock Maze 2, and etc.

There is a sneak peak at one of themes in one of the later worlds! Not much to show on that yet, some very cool things in the works though!
Inspiration
I have been getting a ton of questions on MiiVerse about my previous game The Letter. One question that keeps popping up is, what inspired you to make this game? So here is my answer to that question for Maze. When I was a little kid, my best friend Mj and I used to draw mazes all the time. We would make different levels and make them harder and harder to try and stump each other. We would see who could make better mazes and who was the smartest by figuring them all out! It was a lot of fun, I remembered how much fun we had doing it, so I decided to make it into a full 3D video game!
Multiplayer Mode
Not totally sure if this will make it into the game, as it would take much more time to test, program and get working, but if funding exceeds $15,000, then I should be able to add a multiplayer mode! This is kinda like a stretch goal! In this mode, one player would play on the TV, while the other uses the GamePad screen! Each would be placed at different ends of the maze, (these would be custom multiplayer maps, not mazes from the main adventure mode), and each player would race to collect coins, and solve the mazes first. Depending on the map there would be environmental hazards, robot enemies, and traps! Play competitively, or cooperatively to solve these mazes with your friends! :D
GamePad Features
Currently the Wii U game has multiple uses in this game! One being Off-TV play, and the other being a real-time top down map shown of the each level! I am going to try and work even more features into the beastly controller as well! Rest assured you will feel the love with the Wii U GamePad.
The Enemies
![]()
Here is a quick look at one of the robot enemy models! He flies around with his little propeller, and has a little exhaust pipe on his backside to push him forward! Still in progress, but these guys will be after you in some of the mazes, making it difficult to progress safely!
A few closing thoughts.
I hope you have enjoyed what you have seen on this campaign, and you decide to contribute! :) The game is pretty early in development, but the pr[ocess is going so smoothly that I decided to go ahead and share it with you. There are many cool perks for you to check out, and more updated videos will be launching soon to showcase more levels, features, enemies, and music! This is not our only new game announcement, we will be teasing another one soon, so stay tuned on our social media pages and MiiVerse for updates! I hope you like what you see so far! Thanks for taking the time out of your day to check out our game, I cannot thank you enough,
Eli of TreeFall Studios.
