What is Mechabrick?

Mechabrick is a board-game (launched earlier this year) that uses precision plastic robot models which you build and customise to fight epic battles in a futuristic city environment. The unique point of the game and the associated models is that every part of the mechs and every accessory component we make is compatible with leading plastic building brick brands and minifigs. The scenery around which the game is played is also built from your favorite plastic building bricks, bringing a unique element of creativity to the game.

At the core of the game, having taken over two years to develop and produce, are the 22-part precision molded plastic mech models. They are fully articulated and every component is compatible with your favorite plastic building brick components. You can even use a minifig torso and legs in the core of the mech model if you wish.

Playing the game:

The Mechabrick game is a simple strategy board game designed to be accessible for ages 10+ but with enough options to keep even hardened tabletop gamers interested. It is a turn based game that focuses on the choices you make about what weapons and upgrades you will give to your mechs and how those affect its abilities in the game. 
The game itself sees two or more players commanding an equal number of mechs to try and eliminate their opponent's forces. Every mech has two 'action points' to be used per turn for moving or shooting. Their speed of movement around the grid-based board is determined entirely by their speed attribute (which is reduced by adding lots of upgrades to a mech) and combat is undertaken through a dice-based system with modifiers added or subtracted due to the upgrades each mech has been given.

What is Mechabrick UPGRADED?

The focus of this campaign is to launch the first expansion for the Mechabrick game. Mechabrick UPGRADED includes a range of seven new precision-moulded plastic upgrade components to add to your Mechabrick mechs and give them new powers and abilities in the game. The expansion also includes a new rule-sheet detailing the specifications and rules for these new upgrades as well as a set of 20 playing cards for use with the brick-compatible 'upgrade crates' that are also in the pack. These crates are randomly placed around the board before the game and can be either opened to reveal an upgrade or shot when an enemy mech is near them to potentially make them explode and cause damage.

Why back this campaign?

If you have not yet been introduced to Mechabrick, this campaign offers you an opportunity to get a copy of the original game (at well below retail price) along with a copy of the new expansion in a bundle pack that lets you jump straight in and get the most from this awesome game and model range.
If you already have Mechabrick, you can just get the expansion pack to add the new upgrades to your mechs and the exciting new rules to your games.

Who we are:

My name is Ben Jarvis, For the last 12 years I have run a small games company based in the east of England called 'Megaton Games Ltd' (formerly called Dubreq Ltd) and I have had a life-long passion for robots, gaming and LEGO.

Mechabrick started as an idea I had  over 10 years ago for a range of precision plastic parts to convert minifigs into Japanese style mecha. After a lot of development and design work the idea expanded into a full range of robot kits and add-on upgrades and weapons for them along with a full board-game that uses your favorite plastic building bricks to build the scenery around which the game-play takes place.

I work from our home-office in Norfolk on the east coast of England, helped by a team of awesome freelancers, my wife and my 5 year old daughter (who get roped in to help pack and ship our products!)

Risks and challenges:

This will be the third crowd-funding campaign we have run and the 6th we have provided products for so we have a good level of experience in running and delivering campaigns and know what can go wrong.
To avoid the production delays experienced following our initial Mechabrick campaign (caused by unforeseen financial issues and an unexpected increase in the cost of tooling for the plastic robot kits)  we have invested in all tooling to manufacture these parts already. They are tested, prototyped and ready for production and shipping immediately following the campaign to make this as risk-free and rapid as possible. There are no up-front costs still to raise funds for and we are seeking funding JUST for initial production of the parts and to cover shipping costs and production of the printed materials that go with the new game expansion.

We have listed March 2016 as the expected ship date for the rewards however we hope to begin shipping MUCH faster than that, hopefully by the end of January 2016. The only element of the perks involving a 3rd party  is the printing of the custom printed parts and mechs. These are being undertaken by a trusted UK retailer who we have worked with for two years and we are confident about their estimates for printing schedules.

The final risk is the campaign being VERY successful in which case we may need to push back the shipping date for some rewards to allow extra time for more stock to be manufactured and shipped. In this case we would ship rewards as early as we can in chronological order of when the backers joined the campaign.
