Short Summary

The border of Mexico is full of poverty and the inability to pay for healthcare or the funds to get to a city with free care.  We take quarterly medical mission teams to provide medical care to those who receive no care. Especially young women who are pregnant, and people with terminal illness or chronic illness who need ongoing monitoring and medications.

MEDICAL MISSION trips are our greatest PRIORITY

We are a 501c3 non-profit organization designed to change lives, one life at a time.

It's like the Starfish Story:

Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.

Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching.  As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea. The boy came closer still and the man called out, “Good morning!  May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

What We Need & What You Get

We need funds for the following:

 - funds for women's paps and early detection education, pre-natal care

 - funds for medications and diagnostic equipment

The Impact

When my husband and I first started doing research on the border we went to small towns on the border. When you walk over the bridge you hear the cries of women and children. They are begging for something to be thrown down to them: food, money or both. Their cries are deeply implanted into my heart and mind and we must do something to change the way they have to live. I cannot sit in my warm home in the morning, with a cup of coffee, and not hear the "cries from under the bridge".

Life on the Border makes a tangible and immediate difference in the lives of these people. The human spirit is given HOPE through medical care!

MEDICAL MISSION trips are our greatest PRIORITY.

ONE OF OUR SUCCESS STORIES:

March of 2014, we met Antonio. Antonio could hardly walk. He was in great pain and used a cane. He needed back surgery. Life on the Border walked him through his countries free medical care system and he was able to get on a 1 year waiting list for surgery. Life on the Border provided medications, in the form of injections, each month so that he could make it one year. Antonio is home now and healing. He went quickly from a wheelchair to a cane and is now out selling again for his business. ONE LIFE MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Risks & Challenges

We have built a name, in the community, that can be trusted. We build relationships and join resources. We are capable of surmounting the challenges that the border brings so that we may reach people who are in desperate need.

Other Ways You Can Help

Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help:

  • You may donate medical equipment
  • You can volunteer your time for a medical mission
  • You can donate baby care food and care items, and medicines.
  • YOU can make a PROFOUND difference in ONE life.......

And that's all there is to it.
