The Medusa gi is the first martial arts uniform designed from scratch specifically for women. The gi has the look of a traditional martial arts uniform with a superior fit tailored for women’s physique. This means that you can train to the max with confidence in your uniform.

Regular gi vs. Medusa gi
Uniforms (gi) are integral to the practice of martial arts. Wearing a smart, crisp uniform is a sign of dedication and commitment and an essential part of a martial artist's identity.
While the traditional gi design is functional, it is crude and boxy. For most women these 'unisex' gi are far too broad in the back and wide in the waist, which means saggy jackets and cuffs that often need to be rolled up. Regular gi are uncomfortable and ill-fitting, and women often have to stop their training to adjust, tuck-in or re-tie their uniform.

Designed by professionals, tested by experts
We have dedicated four years to develop a gi that fits women properly, giving maximum comfort, flexibility and importantly, confidence. We started from scratch, working with Donna Longman, a professional garment designer with years of experience in premium sportswear design.

For us, ‘good’ just isn’t good enough. We want the Medusa gi to be the best uniform you’ve ever worn. Throughout the development phase each prototype was rigorously tested by experienced martial artists. Their feedback has helped shape our initial concepts into the finished Medusa gi we have today. We want you to feel exceptional when training and competing, whatever the challenge.

The Medusa gi blends the ethos of a traditional martial arts uniform with the attitude of performance sportswear design. This means a gi made from crisp, opaque 14oz cotton with correct fit and proportions through the body and carefully considered design details.

About Medusa
We are a team of three martial artists with over 40 years’ experience in competing internationally, teaching and coaching, with a lifelong friendship based on our mutual respect for traditional martial arts.

We have been privileged to meet many dedicated women who are outstanding in their chosen martial art. We are inspired by the skill, strength and commitment of these women, and have made it our mission to honour them with the highest quality uniforms and apparel.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We're really proud of the Medusa gi and the overwhelmingly positive reaction from our testers. Now we are ready for the first production run, but we need £8,250 to finance it - that's where you come in! Sizing
Medusa gi have separately sized jacket and trousers, so you can mix-and-match the fit to suit you. Jackets and trousers will fit women from 160 cm (5'3"); shorter women may need to alter the length of their trousers. For reference, the women in our video and photos are heights from 160 cm to 167 cm tall and are UK size 6 to 10.
Women's Jacket Sizing
Jackets are sized Small (UK 6-8, USA 4-6), Medium (UK 10-12, USA 8-10) and Large (UK 14-16, USA 12-14).
Women's Trouser Sizing
Trousers (pants) are sized from UK 8 (USA 6) to UK 16 (USA 14).
If you fall between two size brackets we recommend that you choose the next size up.

Timeline
All the design and development phases for the Medusa gi and apparel are complete. Our factory is ready for our order in mid April, and we expect to start shipping in July 2018.
Risks and Challenges
Through the design and development process we have been working with a trusted European factory who understand our products and our demands for the highest quality; they are now waiting for our first order.
Naturally, unexpected delays can happen, but we have put everything in place to mitigate the risks. As with our martial arts practice, we are committed to achieving our goal to deliver the high quality gi that women deserve.
