Why Meat Needs Innovation
We love meat. The world loves meat. It’s been a core component of the human experience since cavemen times, but the way it is currently produced cannot be sustained, for a number of reasons:
-
The Earth can’t take it: One conventionally-produced hamburger requires 660 gallons of water to produce. We aim to produce burgers that require up to 90% less water (saving the equivalent of 24 showers per burger).
-
Animals are over it: Human consumption of meat currently requires the slaughter of billions of animals each year.
-
It has some health risks: Current production introduces risks of bacterial pathogen contamination, including salmonella, E. coli and more. This is because a stunning amount of meat contains fecal bacteria. Ewww!
By growing meat from animal cells—without the need to feed, breed or slaughter animals—we hope to overcome these problems. This will become even more important as the population and the world’s appetite for meat grow (we know our appetite for meat is growing by the day). In fact, we expect our products to be no kill, no poop (i.e. lower risk of bacterial contamination) and require 90% less environmental demands than today’s meat products. That's why many are referring to what we're working on as "clean meat." To learn more and play an active role in our movement, join our newsletter.

Impact
Getting involved now gives you an opportunity to tangibly advance clean meat. Together, we will help lay the foundation for mainstream adoption of Memphis Meats—a crucial step toward making the future we envision a reality, to the benefit of all. If there's one campaign you should be a part of to help the planet and its inhabitants, it's this one.
So with years until Memphis Meats products line the world’s shelves, what does your money support?
- Development and distribution of educational information about our progress and technology
- Production of major tasting events
- Future prototype development and testing
Each dollar you contribute will help us reach an estimated 17 additional people (and because this movement will impact the entire planet, we need to reach a lot of people!). Subscribing to our newsletter initiates you into a community that will have input on our product and strategy. We want your feedback as we develop products, including which stores we partner with and where we release our first products. And beyond a role in this movement for a brighter future, your early commitment to Memphis Meats’ mission comes with some cool perks:
- Exclusive, limited edition Memphis Meats gear - only for this campaign (keep scrolling for pictures)
- Name recognition as a first mover on our website
Note: contributions are not tax deductible.

Clean meat has never before been possible as the technology has not existed. We are not yet there, but we believe we can break through the remaining scientific and social barriers to make clean meat available to the world. Please help us as we revolutionize the way meat is produced. And thank you for paying it forward!
