Dia del Nino/ Children's Day
Hello! My name is Sara, I have been living in Canada for 5 years but I was born and raised in Jalisco Mexico.
April 30th is my birthday and also is the Children's day in Mexico. It is the greatest day to be a kid! It's a day full of celebrations, parents usually take their kids to school if it is a school day and teachers already have an awesome day planned for the students, there is lots of games, food, prices, toys and best of all no classes at all! Then kids get home and parents take them to kid friendly restaurants with play grounds, food menu and probably a gift from the restaurant and another from your parents.
When I turned 19, I realized is not fun for everybody. Given poverty in Mexico not every kid got to celebrate and that is just not fair, so I approached an orphanage in my city and asked them if it would be ok for me to bring gifts on April 30th? They said yes, but only if I can provide gifts for every child in there, so I started to ask friends and family for money and put my own savings into this cause, when I raised enough money I went to get gifts for every kid in the orphanage, they provided me a list with how many boys and girls they had and their ages so I can get gifts accordingly (ages are 1 to 14 years old).
Once I had all the presents I wrapped them and put a card with the name of each kid on them.
The time, effort and money I put into it was worth it and I did it every year until I came to live to Canada.
I would like to start giving these kids a day they will never forget again and for that, I ask for your help!
There is an orphanage with 150 children in my city that I would like to help, the money would be spend the following way:
*$30 dollars for each kid gift bag (one toy, pair of blue pants, underwear & socks)
If there are 150 kids we will need $4,500 to give a gift bag to each kid.
$500 dollars will be used to get a cake, pinatas, candy, drinks, games to have an actual celebration for this kids.
If the goal is not reached, the money raised will go towards the celebration for the kids. Depending on how much we raised we can buy more pants, underwear and socks for them too.
I know this will not change their life, but it will have a positive impact because they know people care about them, and a smile in their faces are priceless.
Thank you for reading me.
