Picture your lunch. Do dry uninspiring sandwiches and disappointing microwaved leftovers sound familiar? For us here at Glasshouse it certainly did, so we set out to change it. We had an idea; what if you could use your microwave to grill, poach, fry and bake to perfection, delivering the home-cooked taste you love. That is what MICO gives you, lunches and snacks beautifully cooked in a fraction of the time.

MICO is the new method in your microwave. You’ve never cooked like this before; delicious toasties, grilled to perfection, poached and fried eggs with beautifully runny yolks, baked potatoes; crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, all from your humble microwave.
HOW IT WORKS
![]()
![]()
This is possible thanks to new HeatWave Technology
that harnesses the microwave power to deliver
conventional cooking and turns microwaved food from
disappointment to delight.
With MICO, it’s not just your microwave's turntable that’s revolutionary.
TOASTIE
A delicious toasted sandwich is a perfect meal or snack. Melted cheese, coupled with meat, tomato or whatever you fancy can turn the humble sandwich into an indulgent delight. To achieve this you've previously had to use a cumbersome toasted sandwich maker; not exactly something you can take to the office with you.
MICO Toastie changes this, sandwiched between the cool-touch silicone outer are metal plates with added HeatWave Technology. This converts the microwaves into conventional grill cooking, meaning your microwave can now beautifully toast your sandwich.

POTATO
Baked potatoes crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside; the perfect meal. Until now, the only way to make a baked potato is to oven cook for hours, or cook in a microwave and have a soggy mess instead of the ideal crisp potato you crave.
With MICO Potato, you can achieve an oven-cooked taste in just 18 minutes in your microwave. The HeatWave Technology is able to use microwaves to simultaneously cook inside to perfection and crisp up the outside.

EGGS
A sumptuous runny yolk of a poached or fried egg is something to savour, but if you've ever tried to make one in a microwave you'll know only too well the state they often come out in; hard and devoid of flavour.
MICO Egg is the solution to beautifully microwaved eggs with runny yolks in a fraction of the time. The new HeatWave Technology is able to use microwaves to poach or fry eggs in minutes.

I HAVE A QUESTION...!
We have tried to answer all the questions you may have below, but feel free to get in touch if you have any burning questions or comments.
Why is the Mico range so special?
Q: I thought you weren’t supposed to put metal in a microwave oven?
A: Don’t worry our designers have ensured that the Mico range is safe as long as you put it together correctly. As long as metals don’t touch then this is perfectly safe, after all the inside of your microwave oven is made of metal too!
Q: How does food become crispy in Mico and not soggy like other microwave cookware?
A: The principle behind Mico is to shield the microwaves from the food by using metal plates. Without Heatwave Technology the microwaves would simply bounce around the microwave oven and the food would not heat up. With Heatwave Technology the microwaves are not deflected away but absorbed and heat the metal plates very rapidly like a traditional heating element, essentially cooking food by conduction and thus creates a crispy grilled appearance on your food.
Q: How does Heatwave Technology regulate the temperature?
A: Each Mico appliance has Heatwave Technology applied in a different way. Our engineers have produced many prototypes to ensure the technology is positioned correctly and the heat is focused in the most efficient way possible. They have also applied a specific formula to the Technology which limits the maximum temperature achievable depending on the application. Thousands of tests ensure these parameters have been set correctly and you can produce consistent cooking results every time.
Why is the Mico range quicker at cooking than traditional methods?
Q: Why is baking a potato using Mico cookware faster than cooking in an oven?
A: This is directly linked to the inefficiency of regular appliance heating technologies or the general appliance architecture. To cook a potato in an oven the entire oven space must be heated evenly. It takes time to pre-heat the entire oven space and most of that space is wasted and this is costing you money! Cooking a potato in an oven by convection alone takes much longer as the potato is cooked from the outside in and the potato skin acts a shield. Mico uses microwaves to cook the inside of the potato first and then utilises Heatwave Technology to create a conduction/convection environment that creates that oven-baked crispy potato skin.
Q: Why do you remove the lid for the first 8 minutes of the cooking process when cooking a potato?
A: Cooking in a microwave oven can have its benefits over conduction and convection cooking as it heats up the water molecules of food. This means it can cook the inside of a potato very quickly. However, cooking in a microwave oven alone will result in a soggy wrinkled potato. This is why for the last 10 minutes we suggest putting the lid back on to shield the potato from the microwaves to give that crisp yet fluffy perfect baked potato.
Q: Why is making a toasted sandwich using Mico cookware faster than cooking in a sandwich maker?
A: A sandwich toastie maker typically uses a radiating heating element which heats an aluminium plate indirectly. As there is an air gap between the element and aluminium plate it takes a long time for the plate to heat up and heat evenly. When food is added to the toastie maker the heat will be absorbed quickly and it takes a long time for the aluminium plate temperature to recover. Mico’s Heatwave Technology directly covers the entire heating plate. There is no need for a pre-heat phase as it instantly and continuously absorbs microwave energy to ensure the quickest possible heat up time and even heat distribution.
Q: Why is frying an egg using Mico cookware faster than cooking in a pan?
A: Frying an egg typically means heating a frying pan. Again the entire pan needs to be heated which takes additional time over Mico. The heat-up time of the pan is directly linked to the type of hob you have (gas, electric or induction) and these can vary dramatically. The heat distribution in the pan is also linked to the type of hob you have. Mico Egg could not be easier to use. To fry simply add a drop of oil, add the egg and Heatwave Technology will do the rest. The oil will be heated in seconds drastically reducing the time to fry the egg to the desired consistency.
Q: Why is poaching an egg using Mico cookware faster than cooking in a pan?
Poaching an egg typically means heating a pan of water to the boil and then reducing to a simmer. This can take several minutes and requires a lot of interaction with your appliance. There is also a required skill level to achieve a perfectly poached egg and of course a further 4-5minutes to wait while the egg cooks. Mico Egg could not be easier to use. To poach simply add water to the fill line, add the egg and Heatwave Technology will do the rest. The small amount of water will be heated to a simmer in seconds drastically reducing the time to poach.
How easy is the Mico range to use?
Q: Can I use the Mico range in an 800W microwave oven and how do the cooking times vary?
A: Mico can be used in any wattage microwave oven, you just need to adjust the cooking times using the guide provided.
Q: Do the elements have a non-stick coating?
A: Yes, all of the element plates in the Mico range have a non-stick coating making cleaning really easy.
Q: Can I cook other foods in Mico products?
A: In theory yes. Heatwave Technology heats the element plates to around 200 to 240 degrees. In theory there is no reason why different foods can’t be cooked. We look forward to experimenting when more samples arrive so keep a look out for updates on this during the campaign!
Q: Do I need to use any special cooking oil?
A: No, you don’t need anything fancy. Just a drop of regular vegetable or olive oil will do to fry an egg. You could try rubbing salt and oil onto the potato before cooking to make it extra crispy. Toasties always come out nice and crisp if the outside of the bread is buttered.
Q: How durable is Mico?
A: Mico housing is predominantly silicone which is very durable. Dropping Mico would not be an issue. Mico toastie does have a plastic clamp system which could break if repeatedly dropped at the wrong angle.
Q: How hot is the silicone housing after the cooking cycle?
A: Mico’s silicone housing is a great insulating material and will protect you from the metal plates which can get very hot. However, over longer cooking cycles some heat will be absorbed by the silicone so we would recommend using oven gloves when removing Mico Toastie and Potato.
Q: Can I put the Mico range into a dishwasher?
A: Yes the Mico range is fully dishwasher safe.
Q: Can I use Mico products in my regular oven?
A: No. Mico uses Heatwave Technology which is specifically designed to only work in a microwave oven.
Do I have to stick with the suggested portion sizes?
Q: Do I always have to cook two eggs in Mico Egg?
A: No. You can cook one egg only if you want. The cooking time might be slightly lower if only cooking one egg.
Q: How many potatoes can I fit in Mico Potato?
A: You can fit one large potato or two smaller potatoes.
Q: Can I use Mico Egg and Toastie in the microwave oven at the same time?
A: In theory yes provided your microwave oven is large enough. However, eggs will cook faster than a toastie.
Q: Can I put two Mico toasties in a microwave oven at the same time?
A: If your microwave oven is big enough then yes this is feasible. Cooking times might be slightly longer if two toasties are cooked together.
