Mihnea is the coming-of-age story of a first-generation Romanian-Canadian only son, struggling to balance the lofty ambitions of his overbearing parents, his hereditary mental illness, and the pressures of being lost between cultures during a make-or-break period in his academic career.

When I originally wrote this script in February 2020, it was my way of reframing my relationship with my parents through narrative. These past three years in my personal history and the history of the world have changed my perspective. More than ever, right now, we need authentic stories of the inner lives of Eastern European immigrants. For too long in media, the image of the “Iron Curtain” has relegated people from my region of the world to stereotypes: gangsters, stereotypes of sex workers, Bond villains. We deserve better, and I’m hoping my film can help rewrite that history. I also hope more broadly, it can help facilitate conversations about how immigrant children relate to their neurodivergence when coming from families that don’t have that vocabulary yet. Risks & Challenges

We're making a passion project on a micro-budget through personal finances and credit, crowdfunding while we shoot. Currently we've had snowy weather and COVID-19 try to get in our way but we have soldiered on and found solutions because we have a fantastic, capable team who have already created magic. Crowdfunding alleviates the pressures put on a production like this a great deal. Shooting on top of the line equipment with a cast/crew that has collectively worked on huge budget television, awards winning indies, and even prestigious high fashion advertising, our only true obstacle beyond the elements is funding.

Everyone on the crew/cast is in on this because they're passionate about the source material. We're going into this with a leap of faith in our community and in each other.  Our team is experienced, capable and fully committed to making an amazing film.
