The Short Summary
The Mile High Chronicles (MHC) production team has over 50 years of combined experience in television and video production. We realized that important stories unfolding in Denver were being passed over, treated like “flyover country” by the cultural centers on both coasts. The expansion of online and mobile video make cultural centers ubiquitous - they can be anywhere now.
Our aim is to create original, compelling web series that give voice to perspectives that wouldn’t otherwise be seen.
Mile High Chronicles follows Kassandra, a twenty-something visionary with trust issues. A new arrival to the Mile High City after being conned out of a job and a work visa, Kassandra drives for Dryft, an extreme-bargain ride-share service. But her real passion is to create a ground-breaking mobile App. In each four-to-six minute episode, Kassandra comes into contact with colorful local characters - their favorite "products" (wink-wink) - and slightly hallucinatory scenes from movie classics.
By the end of the first season, Kassandra will learn that it’s easier - and more fun - to do something important with a group of people you can trust. She’ll also plant the seeds for building IRL community, and help confront a group of violent, Trump-embolden neo-Nazis.
This campaign is critical not only for raising production funds, but also for bringing Mile High stakeholders into the process. We want to build community by empowering people tell their own stories.
You are part of the Team! A Co-op with Altitude!
Our goal for this campaign is to make sure that actors and crew get at least a small stipend for their hard work on Season One. If we were in New York or Los Angeles, we’d need to raise $30,000. To help our actors pay for babysitters on shoot days, we think $8500 is a reasonable target. And more important than the total number of dollars, we want to identify and grow the number of people in Colorado who are into the idea of supporting local artists - even if the contribution is what you might pay for a ticket at the Multiplex.
We have some amazing perks in exchange for your support, such as subscriptions to our Patreon channel which will include behind the scenes specials.
What happens if we don’t reach our financial goal? Basically the cast and crew will receive smaller stipends, and we'll have fewer resources to promote the series. If we exceed our goals, your contribution will be used to ensure that subsequent seasons go into production.
The Impact
The arc of season one addresses the very real threats that women, people of color, and LGBTQ communities face on a daily basis even here in Colorado. Through humor and strong storytelling, we hope these and other relevant themes will help raise awareness and create a dialogue.
This is about more than just making another webseries. We also want to build the capacity for other untold stories to make it onscreen. We hope our “webseries toolkit” will bolster the ranks of Denver’s content producers.
And through this campaign, we hope to fuel a growing community interested in fostering fun, no-holds-barred storytelling.
What Lies Ahead
There are significant challenges ahead. Distribution is one of the biggest. It’s all well and good to post something on Youtube, but we want to reach a viewership that rivals successful web content produced on the coasts. Here’s how we intend to tackle this issue, with the help of great backers like you.
Our many years of experience in promotion give us an inside track in harnessing the power of social media platforms like Facebook. We can identify people with specific interests using a wide array of engagement techniques.
We’ve also created partnerships with several local businesses and grassroots groups who share an interest in the topics covered in season one. With their help, we can extend the circle of potential influence-makers and translate that into increased viewership.
