We set out to create a versatile, high performance CNC machine that exceeds expectations of what an affordable CNC machine can do. The Mega V is the culmination of our years of experience as a CNC router manufacturer and embodies the founding vision of MillRight CNC: To create "the best value in CNC." The Mega V has been shaped by the feedback we've received from customers along the way. We are passionate about being at the forefront of the consumer CNC market by creating and delivering the most capable CNC machine you can get for the money.
There are a lot of factors that make the Mega V superior to competing machines. Our huge, custom aluminum extrusion is one of the most substantial ever used on a CNC machine at this price point. The bearing plates are precision cut from heavy duty 1/4” steel. These components are twice as thick as what many competitors use.
This and all other footage is in real time.
The Mega V’s oversized rollers are a huge advantage. They are 40mm (1.5”) in diameter, with larger bearings pressed in. This creates a wider contact patch than other machines with similar bearing systems. The Z axis uses high precision linear profile rail. All this together makes the Mega V a superbly rigid machine. We will gladly put the Mega V against any machine in its class in a rigidity test.
The structure and bearing system are only part of what makes the Mega V awesome. We have taken affordable CNC to the next level with a precision rack and pinion drive system, often only seen in more expensive CNC machines. The Z axis is driven by a lead screw and anti-backlash nut proven on another one of our models.
We combined these premium features with high performance NEMA 23 motors with more than double the holding torque of some other machines in the class! We marry these motors to large digital stepper motor drivers and a 48VDC power supply that maximizes the performance of the motors.
The super rigid frame and premium drive system combine for unmatched performance. The Mega V rapid traverses at 650 inches per minute (16,510 mm/minute) on the X and Y axes, giving a diagonal traverse rate of almost 920 inches per minute (23,368mm/minute). We have even tested the system to diagonal traverse rates exceeding 1,800 inches per minute! We literally had to slow the Mega V down to keep it from being “too fast”. Just as importantly, the Mega V has the power to accelerate very quickly. It goes from a full stop to full rapid in a flash. With a maximum cutting rate of 500 inches per minute (12,700 mm/minute), the Mega V can cut more than twice as fast as some other machines can rapid traverse.
Whether you plan to cut wood, plastic, carbon fiber, aluminum, or other soft metals, the MillRight Mega V has the rigidity, speed, and precision to zip through your projects.
We've done a massive amount of work prior to the launch of this campaign to set us up for success. The Mega V's many custom parts have been getting tested, redesigned, and refined for months. We can make a lot of parts in our own manufacturing facility equipped with a production lathe, vertical machining center, waterjet, lasers, and other supporting equipment. We've already coordinated with suppliers for the parts that we can't make in house, like the Mega V's custom aluminum extrusion. We designed the profile, had the die manufactured, and got a local aluminum extruder to produce samples. We've even already negotiated production pricing. We just need your backing to put in the high volume order that will allow us to get the best possible pricing and pass those savings along to you.
Features like the optional 4th axis are quite uncommon for machines in this class. We've refined a multi-axis branch of Grbl and designed a custom breakout board to make the rotary axis possible. You can even rotary engrave with the optional laser.
You'll love the optional 7 watt JTECH laser system with high resolution lens and protective shroud. The laser mounts magnetically and can be pulled on and off the machine easily. You can go from routing to laser engraving and back again in a flash.
The Mega V Plasma version has the same high performance characteristics as the router version. It adds high-end, sought after features often used on industrial plasma tables. The machine mounts right on top of a water table that we fabricate, weld, and powder coat for durability. A water table helps capture the nasty fumes created in the plasma cutting process, keeping your shop clear of the smoke clouds that would build up otherwise. The Mega V plasma has a functioning Z axis, unlike most other plasma tables in the price range. This makes adjustments for different material thicknesses quick and easy. The Mega V plasma version's pre-wired control box has outputs for torch trigger and torch height control not present on the router version. With the optional torch height controller, you can cut warped materials or even corrugated metal because the Z axis will automatically adjust to keep the ideal torch height above the metal.
We're including a breakaway magnetic torch mount and a touch-off slider for free! You will need to provide your own blow-back start plasma cutter. We recommend the Hypertherm Powermax45 XP. It has a CNC interface on the back of the unit that will allow you to easily tie into the torch control cable coming out of the Mega V's control box. If you use a plasma unit without a CNC interface you must be prepared to splice into your unit's torch trigger to let the Mega V automatically control it. Contact your torch manufacturer for more information on integrating with a CNC machine.
Want to use one machine for plasma cutting and CNC routing? With the Mega V plasma version you can easily turn the plasma table into a router table in two simple steps. Make sure to include the Router Add-on and Router Table Adapter in your pledge to get the best of both worlds! Please note that the plasma version has the capability of being used as a CNC router, but not vice versa.
Want to understand more about the options? See what's available using the pledge table below.
To read the table, find the machine you selected at the top, then look for the optional accessory on the left. If the corresponding cell has "n/a" then that option is not available with that machine version.
Mega V Z Stage Exploded View
Assembly will be a breeze with the best assembly instructions yet. Expect exploded views, step by step 3D renderings, and plenty of pro tips along the way. We are putting a ton of effort into making things easy for you!
Please see the table below for shipping costs for the machines. This is in addition to the pledge amounts shown at the right of the page. The Mega V router versions will ship "flat-packed" via UPS or FedEx. The Mega V plasma version must ship on a pallet via truck freight. We have negotiated with our freight company to provide residential delivery service for the plasma version. The freight truck will come to your home and lower the plasma table from the truck for you. We can only ship the plasma version within the contiguous United States.
Multiple Software Options
Almost everyone has access to 100% free software solutions.
We will make a customized version of Universal G Code Sender (UGS) available for download. UGS is a free open source control program written by Will Winder. We have written in additional features such as 4th axis read outs and jog controls.
For designing and making tool paths, most of our customers use Fusion 360 from Autodesk. Autodesk provides free licenses to hobbyist users and small businesses making less than $100,000 in revenue (whether you back this project or not). Please see their page for license specifics. We have the same software under a commercial license and use it for design and generating tool paths for our production machines as well as the machines in the MillRight line up, including the Mega V. We will provide a custom written post processor for plasma cutting and rotary axis work with our machines for Fusion 360.
We also offer Vectric products such as Cut2D and VCarve for those that prefer those programs. We think everyone should check out Fusion 360 since it is such an excellent program and is free to many users, but we also encourage everyone to evaluate Vectric programs as well. Vectric software is user friendly, capable, and in our opinion excels at artistic work and engraving.
