Miss YaYa's All Female Band Latin Jazz Salsa Live Album Recording
Who's Miss YaYa...
Saludos, mi gente, I am Miss YaYa, a GRAMMY nominated singer-songwriter, recording artist and performer, of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent. You may have heard my lead vocals on the latest Dark Latin Groove album: Sergio George Presents: DLG Renacer. Since then I have travelled the world with DLG, performing in countries like Belgium, Italy, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Tenerife and more.
In addition to being nominated for the prestigious GRAMMY award, having been part of such a legendary Salsa group has opened many doors, including the release of my independent studio recording solo album, Miss YaYa: The Demo, touring the world with Neil Berg's 50 Years of Rock & Roll, as well as starring in plays and musicals, such as On Your Feet!: The Story of Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan.
My musical training began while attending LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts, where I studied Classical vocal techniques, was part of the Gospel choir, and various after school programs at Lincoln Center.
I was born and raised in New York City, and am exposed to so many different genres of music and cultures. With over 20 years experience in the music industry, I describe my sound as a fusion of Tropical, Soul and R&B vibes, with sprinkles of Jazz and Urban elements, intent on enticing all people to dance, feel empowered and have a good time.
What's The Tea on This Campaign...
This campaign helps raise funds for our Latin Jazz Salsa live album recording, and the 'making of the album' documentary of this project. Lyrics are about 80% Spanish, and 20% English.
My dream has been to unite a group of super talented female musicians to create a transcendent musical experience, for us while recording, as well as for the listener.
Your support is greatly appreciated! Helping to fund this project helps a group of women come together to create a piece of musical work to be recorded and distributed, while getting paid a proper wage for their creativity, time and expertise.
Your support also helps an independent experienced film crew to document the creation and studio experience of the making of the album. The documentary helps upcoming independent artists and anyone curious about the process, to learn what it takes, the joys and challenges of recording an album as an independent artist.

The Impact
What This Project Means for Women In Music...
Women are vital to the Latin jazz and salsa music scene. When it comes to cultural representation, we bring diverse cultural perspectives, enriching any genre with our authenticity and depth. The musicians committed to this project are known for their innovation, contributing significantly with their unique styles, incorporating new sounds and creative ideas to Miss YaYa's already existing demos. As role models, these successful women, all with longstanding experience in the music industry, continue to inspire younger generations, encouraging more female participation in music. We look forward to being part of the fabric of social impact, expressing our shared stories and souls through the creativity going into this album.
What This Project Means for Tropical Music...
As Latinas, inspired and influenced by our roots, we aim to play a crucial role in contributing to the future of Latin Jazz and Salsa, driving creativity and cultural expression while honoring our ancestors rich traditions.
What This Project Means for Behind The Music Documentaries...
The additional documentary feature of this campaign showcases female talent and creativity, serving as a powerful source of inspiration for up-and-coming musicians, particularly women, encouraging them to pursue their artistic ambitions. Additionally, independent filmmakers can gain valuable insights into storytelling, production, and representation, highlighting the importance of diverse voices in the music and film industries. Furthermore, the documentary can promote greater appreciation for Latin Jazz and Salsa, educating audiences about the cultural significance of these genres and the contributions of women, thereby fostering inclusivity and diversity in music. Overall, this documentary can empower future generations of artists and filmmakers while enriching cultural understanding.
Other Ways You Can Help
We understand not everyone is able to make a donation. Just you reading this far into the campaign is greatly appreciated! Thankfully there are other ways to lend a hand. You can help spread the word by liking, sharing and reposting about our fundraiser. Indiegogo has great share tools to make it easier to make some good noise about our project. Thank you so much for your support!
Risks & Challenges
Asking for funding for a project takes courage, vulnerability and a tremendous amount of planning, patience and faith. We are grateful for the team we've put together to make our Latin Jazz Salsa album with a full female band a reality, and for your support.
In the event we are unable to reach our goal of $75,000, Miss YaYa is ready to use credit cards and take out business loans to fund the rest of the project. This solution isn't ideal, yet we are determined to keep our word to ourselves and our contributors.
Adjustments to focus on executing STAGES ONE, TWO and FOUR will be made, first and foremost. Contributors and investors will receive their perks, with the exception of the Limited Edition Concert T-Shirts*. If we don't make our $75,000 goal, chances are, the listening party won't be able to happen. In that case, signed vinyl records will be mailed directly to the supporters who claimed perks in the URBAN, RHYTHM & BLUES, TROPICAL, and SOFRITO categories. We hope to get sponsorship for the listening party.
Contingent upon us surpassing our goal, THANK YOU BTW!, all funds over $75,000 for this campaign will be donated to MusiCares, an organization dedicated to helping the humans behind music. Offering preventive, emergency, and recovery programs, MusiCares is a safety net supporting the health and welfare of the music community. Founded by the Recording Academy in 1989 as a U.S. based, independent 501(c)(3) charity, MusiCares safeguards the well-being of all music people through direct financial grant programs, networks of support resources, and tailored crisis relief efforts.
