Help us sustainably give clean water to the Kaputalambwe village in Malawi, Africa.
Our goal.
We have already raised enough to install a high-tech clean water pump in Kaputalambwe. Thank you for helping save countless lives! Let’s take it a step further. With $90,000, we can:
- Expand the water pump capacity and pipes so people from surrounding villages can access clean water.
- Install a remote monitoring system to ensure that the pump lasts for decades.
- Add a drip irrigation system to provide Kaputalambwe with an increased, sustained livelihood and surrounding communities with more food.
Who we're helping.
7km from the electrical grid, Kaputalambwe lacks access to the most basic life sustaining needs, including clean water. This month alone, an outbreak of malaria and water borne illnesses have brought roughly 50 additional patients daily to its clinic. This warm-hearted community already makes do with what they have, despite crippling disease. But with clean water, it can go from surviving to thriving.
Who we are.
We are the MIT chapter of AEPi. Inspired by the technological innovation we witness every day at MIT, we realized that there are important problems to solve beyond designing that next consumer app or gadget.
That is why we are partnering with an amazing organization called “
Innovation: Africa,” who’s mission is to bring high-tech, sustainable solutions for Africa’s most pressing needs. In fact, Innovation: Africa received the appropriately-named
Innovation Award in 2013 from the United Nations. In the 7 years since it’s been founded, Innovation: Africa has profoundly impacted the lives of over 700,000 people in Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Africa, and Senegal.
We are humbled to be working with such an amazing organization. And we hope you will join us in supporting its efforts to fundamentally transform Kaputalambwe.
Our campaign: Pie 2015.
MIT Dean of Admissions Stu Schmill was pied for charity.
We used pie to raise awareness and donations for this amazing cause at MIT. The response was staggering. Dozens of campus leaders – from students to administrators – agreed to be pied in the face by the highest bidder.
Now it’s your turn. While it’s too late to participate in our pie festival, it’s not too late to give. And, based on which “perk” you select to the right, you can receive things ranging from fresh pie delivered to your home or office to permanent recognition in Kaputalambwe. Thank you for your support and donations.
