My name is Michael S. Wilson and I’m the editor of Modern Success magazine.  We are located in beautiful downtown Madison, Wisconsin, which you might remember was the scene of a massive months-long protest and occupation of the capital about a year ago which became the template for the larger Occupy movement.

Here, just off the University of Wisconsin - Madison campus, is where Modern Success is made.  Our audience is the student body and faculty of the UW.  We seek to publish a thoughtful, insightful magazine for the students at the U, one which will hopefully get them thinking about how they will be successful in the future, especially when faced with such difficult hinderances as skyrocketing tuition, massive debt encumbrance after school, poor preparation for an insecure job market and economy, and the over-arching threat of fossil-fuel-based climate change.

While these obstacles are daunting, they open an opportunity for the students to question the old-guard definitions of success:  money, shiny cars, a big house, loads of consumer products, etc etc etc.  It is our belief that such narrow values have largely gotten us to where we are today, and so we find that this time is a great opportunity for students to re-think those value systems.  While we feel it is important to challenge the mainstream constructs of ‘success’, we feel it is equally important for students to come to their own conclusions, and as such, we constantly encourage them throughout the magazine to research these topics for themselves.

To help the students with these questions, we have assembled some of the great thinkers and artists of our time to fill the magazine with highly valuable (and relatively unknown) information.  Because we feel the information is so important, the magazine is free for students and staff at the University.

You can help us bring thoughtful articles and ideas to the students at the University of Wisconsin by donating today.  Here are our goals:

Printing:  $5,500 (About 4,000 copies at around 60% color; yes, printing is that expensive.)
Distribution and mailing costs:  $350
Any extra funds will be re-invested directly into the business and/or used to print out more copies of the magazine for the students.

Check out the shwag you can pick up by donating to us! ———>>

We are also teaming up with Rainbow Bookstore for a special advertising co-fundraiser.  See below.*

We at the magazine hope you will donate to this important project today.  By doing so, you will be helping students consider new ways of attaining success in our modern world, something students are desperately seeking.  I wish you great success in your own future as well.

Sincerely,
Michael S. Wilson
