Who are you people?!
Last fall, Laurel Andersen and Sarah Kleist (friends and fellow alumni of AMDA NYC) walked into a restaurant to talk about their feelings and walked out with a theatre company. No, but really. What spawned from reading too many female-empowered memoirs about creativity and the arts merged with a long held desire to create our own work -- and here we are!
Monday Theatre Company aims to create socially-conscious work with a sense of humor. We want to tell stories with alternative narratives and give opportunities to talented members of our creative community -- and actually pay them!
We have an exciting season with 4 projects lined up for 2016, and we need YOU (yes, you!) to make it happen.
What in Gloria Steinem's name do you need money for?
This year, we're doing 4 projects:
-
a full scale production of TWELFTH NIGHT by William Shakespeare (directed by co-founder of “Occupy Verona”: Joe Raik)
- a reading of a brand new play based on the myth ATALANTA by Case Watson
- an all-female COMEDY NIGHT
- a staged reading of a NEW MUSICAL written by S. Dylan Zwickel and Melissa Miles (grads of the MFA Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU)
Here's where the money comes in:
Real talk, though...
With Donald Trump and #OscarsSoWhite flooding our Facebook news feeds, there has never been a more appropriate time for alternative, progressive work. Your contribution to MTC helps us with these three individual projects, but moreover encourages an upcoming group of artists to create in a challenging, uncertain world.
What could possibly go wrong?
With theatre productions, there is always an element of risk. If we don't meet our goal, all of the funds we DO raise will go towards necessary elements (theatre rental, rehearsal space, etc) and the remainder will be up to us -- perhaps leaving the invaluable actors and creative teams (directors, stage managers, music directors) without compensation for their genius! Help Laurel and Sarah not go broke, but also help these other young creatives get paid!
But I'm a broke artist too! How can I help?
We live in a social media world (and we are social media girls -- ha, ha) so please share / comment / like / post / blog / tweet / instagram / vine (? does anyone still do that?) / tell your cat / tell your grandma ... ERRYONE.
