We are Monster Moon Theatre.
Native to Vancouver, we are a small theatre company interested in exploring the darker side of human kind. Monster Moon was founded in the summer of 2012 with our very first production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. It is a script we have watched grow from a movement-based performance into an intimate, naturalistic piece. It's been a dream of ours to take Danny to the Edinburgh Fringe for many years now and, with your help, it can become a reality! With your support, we will be able to perform our very first international show at the biggest Fringe festival in the world.
What We Need From You.
Our total goal for this project to get our base funding of $5,000. This campaign is going to attribute for $2,000 of that. This is the bare minimum we need to do the show, and the extra $3,000 will allow us to get our ideal set, costumes, lighting, insurance and all the other fun things (i.e. proper insurance)! This $2,000, along with other fundraisers we have done in the past will help us get:
1) The rights to put on the show
2) Our marketing (such as posters, advertising, and press coverage)
3) Fringe Festival Fee
4) Some of our venue costs
What You Get From Us!
Perks! Perks! Perks! We love our contributors and think that you should get to feel that love! Check out our perks section for all the goodies and appreciation your heart can desire! And if there's a perk you'd like that isn't on our list, give us a shout. We love to personalize things and we love to share: Is it someone's birthday and you need a special video? Would you or someone you know like to have coffee and talk about what it's like to be a start-up theatre company in Vancouver, or how art is affecting our next generation? Do you or your cat need a personalized (a.k.a.
matching) christmas sweater?
Why Help Us?!
To us, this project is invaluable.
Danny and the Deep Blue Sea tells a story of two tormented New Yorkers that cross paths in the underbelly of the Bronx and a bar becomes a late night confessional. We love this script because it makes you question your reasons for judging people. You don't know everyone's story, what's shaped them, what's hurt them, and you can't tell why people react certain ways until you talk to them. This story is a beautiful example of what a little compassion can do for a damaged soul.
We have performed
Danny numerous times around B.C, from the Director's Festival in Chilliwack, to Renegade Theatre and back to where it began at Douglas College. Each time we have performed
Danny, we've donated 100% of the proceeds to charities (including The Vancouver Women's Shelter and Rape Relief and Covenant House). We recently produced our latest show in December,
BASH: Latterday Plays by Neil Labute, as a fundraiser for this production.

Risks and Challenges.
The life of theatre is always full of risks and challenges but that's okay! We take every new opportunity and see how it can make us stronger as a company. Of course there is a million things to do and even more that could go wrong but we believe in our show and our work. In the worst case scenario (say a giant frog attacked our venue and we were unable to do the show, oh my!) all of the money collected would go straight into our 2015/16 season with partial donations going towards charity. But lets not think about that, let us focus on the positive and keep our eyes on the prize!
Other Ways You Can Help (Make Some Noise!)
Money isn't the only way that helps us out, just having your support means the world! By spreading the word about this project you are helping us immensely. If you do spread the word though let us know, because we want to thank every single person that helps us reach our goal. You can use the share tool on the left side and start making some noise about supporting small time theatre!
Thank yous.
We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us so far! Jamie-Leigh Gonzales and Tim Latz for the beautiful promo video, our families for the countless amount of rides to drag set around, our audiences, donors and volunteers thus far, and our mentors who have guided us. We wouldn't be where we are without you all and it means so much to us to have that support.
THANK YOU.
