The Film.
MOONSAULT is Danielle Lessovitz's
MFA pre-thesis project in the graduate film program at New York
University's Tisch School of the Arts.
The film will be shot in
Philadelphia in January on Super 16mm film. Total run time will be 10
minutes. NYU has generously donated cameras, lights, and film stock and everyone involved, including a crew of 14 and cast of seven, are volunteering their time.
Story.
We all grow up. Some of us do it with grace, but most of us hit a few bumps here and there. MOONSAULT is
a story of one such bump. Set in 1986, it focuses on Tina, 12, who comes
home from the first day of ninth grade to discover that her best friend
and older brother, Luke, suddenly wants nothing to do with her. After discovering his wrestling singlet, her fight to
win back his affection takes her on a journey through the awkwardness of
adolescence to discover that sometimes who we want to be isn't always
possible.
Why You Should Contribute
It's fun. It's a film. And you will get things.
It's fun. Let's be honest, no one decides
to be involved in a film project because of the long hours, stress, and
torment of actually trying to evoke a feeling experience by a large
number of people at the same time because they have nothing better to
do. Being a part of team, making something original, honest, and
heartfelt is fun.
It's a film. How many people actually get
to make films? Practically no one, especially films shot on actually
film stock. We are a rare breed.
What the Funding Goes Towards
Food. We plan on shooting for 5 days with a crew of 14. Three meals a day at $10 each (including snacks, coffee and water) comes to $2,100 and that is just the crew
Production Design. We will be renting an apartment for the film and designing it so that it every object is from 1986 or earlier. Not easy.
Transportation. From New York, to Philadelphia and back, for everyone.
