About My Project
I live in Singapore where personal
mobility devices like motorized scooters and electric bicycles are very
popular. However, these devices are mostly designed for a single person and
very fun-focused. So I designed and built a four-wheeled mobility pad so that
it can be used for many applications.
I call this device the MoPad
(Mobility + Pad).
It is operated by one person and is designed to carry 2 adults
or loads up to 200kg.
Also I enjoy building things and one of the main reason for me
is to design and build a device that can benefit many people if they were made
more popular. For example, there are many elderly wheelchair user requiring
care takers to push them around, workers needing to push trolleys with their
equipment and documents at work and buyers pushing shopping trolleys in
supermarkets; this is very inefficient.
I wish to start mass production for this device so it can be
made popular for use by everyone. Therefore I seek your support for funding!
Presentation
The MoPad is a
motorized mobility device designed to be used as a heavy duty vehicle. It is a
very practical and useful motorized device which can be readily used to convert
manual mobility devices such as wheelchairs, trolleys, golf carts into
motorized ones without any modification made to the existing device. There is a
lot of potential application for this device. It has four wheels and designed
to be narrow enough for bicycle paths and still be stable when turning. It can
function with an operator standing at the back or a used in seating position on
the main pad. It has four anchor points with fastening harness to secure
anything placed onto the pad. It is also fitted with 500 watt motors and speed
restricted to be slow at 18km/hr (speed can be further reduced) to provide
adequate power to facilitate movement of people and things but not to go too
fast.

As there are many existing manual mobility
devices user around, the MoPad will
be about to enable them with motorized power instantly! I think my mobility pad
concept will appeal to many more people across sectors. I hope that by getting MoPad into mass production, it will
greatly benefit everyone!

I will assemble a team to begin mass production.
Risks and problems
It is a complex product and quite many of the parts have to be
specially manufactured.
My job is to design, make and document the parts but I have no experience in mass production.
I'm the only fully dedicated team member today.
I do not have any big resources so if I for some reason must
end the project, it is not certain that I can repay all contributions.
The rules on electric devices differs from country to country, and some places
do not allow 4 wheeled motorized devices.
I am convinced that I can put together a good team and solve these
difficulties and make a great MoPad.
