BACKGROUND
GRAMCO FUNGI have been selling Australian mushrooms since 1994. The vast majority of morel mushrooms are harvested in the Northern Hemisphere Spring. Wild morels are becoming increasingly rare in Australia as the climate changes and rain patterns shift. Australia has the ability to supply the world market with fresh cultivated Morel mushrooms in the Australian spring - September to December.
In the last 10 years Chinese growers have discovered a seasonal outdoor growing method typically yielding 1-2 tons/ hectare annually. Morel Mushrooms Australia (MMA) has access to a superior technology under licence from the Sandianshui Biology Co - China’s most successful morel growing enterprise.
USES
In Asian countries, such as China, India and Japan, the morel is used as a traditional herbal medicine. “Many reports have shown the antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor activities of the morel fruiting body, and some pharmacologically active ingredients have also been found” in the morel, such as polysaccharides, ergosterol derivatives, microthecin and others. The morel is valuable as functional food and natural medicine.
Furthermore, the facility required to grow morel mushrooms allows production of other mushroom varieties. These varieties can be used for medicinal products, packaging materials, building materials, and even clothing. These innovations can transform various industries replacing unhealthy production and consumption habits.
We plan to grow prototypes of mushroom leather within 12 months and to investigate mushroom varieties that eat plastic and allow bioremediation of toxic sites.
GREEN PROCESS
We are leasing approximately 60 acres on a farm in Healesville. The past history of the farm is strawberry production with the facilities being second to none. The property includes large sheds, insulated rooms and cooling rooms. The farm has a large 100 megalitre dam with reticulated water and irrigation systems across the entire property.
Our process requires mixing and bagging our substrate into bags. The bags are sterilised, then inoculated and incubated before planting out in shade houses (outdoor production) or tubs in racks (indoor production). No chemicals are used or required.
Correct watering procedures and environmental controls facilitate consistent morel production across the beds and in the tubs.
Products are made from agricultural waste materials blending scientific expertise with natural myceliated processes. At the end of the process we finish with compost. Making the production of mushrooms one of the world’s greenest food medicine and material science products.
This is a proven technology licensed from China's most successful morel production company. This company is collaborating with our project in Australia.
Support our initiatives to make our world cleaner, greener and healthier!
