Short Summary
My name is Rachael Asher and I am 20 years old. I have always wanted to study in Europe and after years of trying and saving I finally have a visa for education in Belgium, and although I have spent the past two years saving money so I can do it, a little help from others never hurt!
I have been an honor roll student my entire life, making the deans list both semesters I was enrolled in college in the US. I plan to continue my good academic past in Antwerp, as well as push myself harder to achieve greater things.
My set date to move is September 15th. I will be leaving behind almost all of my belongings and friends in the USA. It will be a hard transition, but my boyfriend and his family will be welcoming me to my new home in Antwerp.
I've been to Belgium twice now, both times with my hard earned money, and I absolutely fell in love with the city of Antwerp. Now, I get the chance to continue my studies in Belgium as well as be with a person I love very much.
What We Need & What You Get
So to break it down, here's an example of what a single 100 dollar donation could do. Each bullet represents an individual 100 dollar donation:
- Pay for almost 2 weeks of rent!
- Pay for my food for a month!
- Buy me a cellphone and pay the bill for 6 months.
- Buy me all the books I need for my first year of school.
- Pay my health insurance for 2 months.
- Buy me 9 round trip train tickets!
- Pay for 1/8 of my school each year!
Keep in mind that donations are accepted in amounts lower than 100. This is just an easy way to explain where the money would go!
The Impact
Each and every donation allows me to stay longer in Belgium. I do plan on getting a work permit when I arrive as well as working through the holidays, but there are never any guarantees for employment, and I will need help!
- This may not be for some huge charity or for a super awesome documentary, but it's about creating a future and living a dream to better myself and the world around me.
- I've never had a previous campaign, but I did spend a lot of my highschool years volunteering through several projects including: Step up Cincinnati, Relay for Life, 5k For Haiti, and several others. Now, I find myself in the position to ask for help, instead of giving it.
- For anyone who knows me, they know that I never ask for much. I don't like being a hinderance to people. It takes a lot for me to ask for help, no matter how much I need it.... But this is so important to me. It's been my whole life, and I hope that with your help, I can continue to live my dream.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can’t contribute, but that doesn’t mean they can’t help:
- If you can't offer a monetary donation, that's okay! Spreading the word about this campaign will help as well.
- Remind them to use the Indiegogo share tools!
And that’s all there is to it.
