Why Should You Donate?
My name is Mari J. Patterson and this is a campaign to raise funds for my senior thesis film. I'm in my last year at film school and it's been a ride. This film will determine my future as a film maker. My last film (Dear Abigail) was recently accepted into the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival, which is screening November 12, 2016 at the famous Roxie Theater. I worked in the corporate world for almost ten years when I decided to pursue my passion in film making. It was a risk to leave a well-paying job to be a starving student but it has been well worth the sacrifice. I am also currently an Honor Roll Student with a 3.66 G.P.A. I also work as a Video Production Intern to put my skills to use and perfect them.
The films I make are always passion projects and always have a message about social injustices. Murderer on the Loose Leaf is a dark comedy/satire that sends a message to women that they can do anything if they have the drive and if they're willing to work for it. It also reinforces the important message that women are all on the same team.
What We Need
I am trying to raise a total of $14,125. I've organized a local fundraiser to raise a goal of $2,000 and I am trying to raise the remainder of the budget through Indiegogo. Please donate so myself and my amazing crew can get this film made and out on the festival circuit. This film is the biggest undertaking I've ever had the opportunity to be a part of. I have an amazing cast and crew lined up, but I need the funds to pay them. I have crew who work professionally in the Hollywood Movie Industry as well as local talent. Below are the things my budget will be going toward:
- Cast
- Crew
- Production Design
- Set Design/Wardrobe/Props/Make-up/Hair
- Film Insurance
- Filming Permits
- Travel
- Distribution
- Marketing
- Equipment Rental
- Meals/Craft Services
The Impact
If we raise our goal, we will be able to make this film the best it can be. Unfortunately, films are not easy nor cheap to make.
- This film is important for women and important in the film world as an art form because women are rarely portrayed in roles without a male love interest or a male to help them succeed.
- My Last film was made in only 11 weeks with a $4,000 budget and made it's way into the hearts of many and also film festivals. Luckily I have nine months to make this one but I also have a bigger budget.
- You'll be helping a student achieve her goals and cementing her career as a filmmaker. and also help her become a college graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production.
Risks & Challenges
I'll be honest, this film is no easy task. My cast is large, I have a musical number and the production design is extremely important since the film essentially has all 1950s wardrobe and decor. I have a cast that is willing to spend countless hours rehearsing and a crew who is dedicated and already enhancing their skills specifically for this film project.
- I am dedicated to this film in everything that I do and I won't give up.
- We are being proactive with any challenges and prepared in case anything gets thrown our way.
Other Ways You Can Help
I know not everyone has the financial means to contribute money, but there are other ways:
- Please share this campaign with your family and friends (we desperately need this campaign to go beyond family and friends)
- Please use the Indiegogo share tools!
Thank you for considering and making it this far is you're still reading!
