Who are We?
We
are the Museum of Gaming History (MoGH), a not-for-profit, 501(C)3, educational
institution founded by the Casino Chip and Gaming Token Collectors Club,
Inc. The mission of the Museum of Gaming History is to preserve
collections, artifacts, and archives for the purpose of educating the
public through it’s exhibitions, programs, and information. The MoGH
provides a virtual and physical presence of Gaming Collectibles and
Memorabilia at our website (www.themogh.org) and displays of such items at various venues in Las Vegas, at this time, with more planned.
Gaming has held a place in traditional and popular culture for centuries worldwide. When motivations, style, and technology change, gaming has adapted to serve the needs and desires of people. Artists represent it, writers discuss it, and destinations are built around it. Gaming can be simultaneously celebrated or criticized, leisurely or addictive, legal or illegal. Learning multiple perspectives helps us understand what drives people to invest time and money in and around gaming. Preserving artifacts provides tangible references to study and enjoy. Engaging in public dialogue about such cultural traditions enables us to think critically about our past, present and future.
What We are Doing?
![]()
Building on the recent success with public exhibits at the El Cortez and Mob Museum the Museum of Gaming History wants to expand it’s footprint by looking to raise money via direct donations to fund an upcoming exhibition located at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas Nevada. This project will showcase items from this historic property and will be open to the public free-of-charge. Putting on an exhibition of this complexity costs money - to procure items of historical significance to the property, to procure display cases, to develop a multi-media presentation with the rich history of the property from its time as a railroad stop through becoming an icon of downtown Las Vegas and one of the most photographed hotels in all of downtown.
The exhibition will include gaming memorabilia such as chips, dice, and slot glass and will also include pictures from the different eras and incarnations of the property. The display will start in February 2016. We have a lot of items that were donated or loaned for the exhibition, but we can't do this without your additional financial support. Our website has some of the coverage we received. These can be seen at
our website video section.
What Have We Done?
![]()
The Museum of Gaming History has already put on two exhibits. The first exhibit was at the Mob Museum located in downtown Las Vegas (in the old post office building). Our second exhibit is becoming a permanent piece at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino and chronicles the life of Jackie Gaughan, one of the pioneers who made Las Vegas what it is today. He owned a number of very influential properties, such as the El Cortez, The Plaza, The Western, The Las Vegas Club, and even held part ownership in the Flamingo, Golden Nugget, and Boulder Club. This exhibit showcases the man through memorabilia such as chips, dice, slot glass, pictures, and a multi-media presentation.
You can keep up with the events through the webpage at our events page.
