"In a Twisted Experiment, Sanity Shatters and Desperation Takes Hold. Who Will Survive the Torpensium Trials?"
In a mysterious research facility set in the 1970's, a group of individuals participate in a clinical trial involving a drug called Torpensium. As tensions rise and secrets unravel, the true nature of the drug is revealed, leading to chaos and violence. With unexpected twists and shocking revelations, this gripping thriller explores the dark side of human nature. N.U.M.B presents an immersive experience that will leave you questioning everything. Can you trust your own mind?
The film delves into a twisted realm where the line between sanity and madness blurs, and the consequences of playing with human nature becomes all too real.
As we've set our film in the 1970s, one significant challenge we face is production design. It's crucial for us to achieve era-accurate costume design, hair & makeup, sets, locations, and props. However, this requires a substantial financial investment. To mitigate costs, we have made the decision to rent as many items as possible.
Another critical aspect of our film is the acting. The two directors firmly believe that to bring this script to life, we need talented actors who can deliver exceptional performances. Given the psychedelic nature of the story, subpar acting could risk making the film cringeworthy. To address this concern, we are committed to hiring professional actors wherever feasible. Allocating a portion of our budget to secure their involvement ensures that we can produce a high-quality film with outstanding performances.
Some of the locations we require are highly specific, and using nearby alternatives would compromise the authenticity of the era. Consequently, we might need to travel up to one hour to reach these locations. While our dedicated crew is willing to volunteer on set for the experience, it remains essential to provide everyone with meals and cover their travel expenses.
In summary, the challenges we face include managing the production design costs associated with creating an era-accurate setting and relying on professional actors to elevate the quality of the film. Additionally, the need for specific locations might require some travel, necessitating budget considerations for meals and transportation expenses.
We understand the apprehension that comes with investing your hard-earned money without fully knowing who you're entrusting it to. To alleviate any concerns and help you feel confident in your decision, allow us to share a bit about ourselves.
Producer
Ethan Lawrence
I’m Ethan Lawrence, producer on our short film ‘N.U.M.B’.
Operating as the business end of the team, it’s my job to supervise logistical
operations and manage the budget and overall finance of the film. Essentially,
getting our T’s crossed, I’s dotted and everything in between.
Having steadily built a strong and varied foundation for a career in film and
production over the last four years, I’ve been eager to truly get out there and develop
my very own filmography that I can stand by and put my name to.
Having seen Matt Deely’s previous work as director on ‘2:22’, I couldn’t pass up the
chance to work with him when he came to me with ‘N.U.M.B’.
With the team we’ve got and what we’ve got planned, I’m excited to see what we can
bring to the big screen and beyond.
The Directors 'The James Brothers'
Luke 'James' Uliasz
I’m Luke “James” Uliasz, one half of the “James Brothers”. I am co-writer/co-director of N.U.M.B and I couldn’t be more excited about the project. I have been making short films and videos since a very young age and I couldn’t see myself doing anything else with my life. If you donate, you’ll be helping me get a step closer to achieving my dream. I have been working with Matthew since we were about 14 and over that time our bond as friends, directors and “brothers” has only grown. There’s no one else I could see myself working on this project with and I know that with our joint abilities and passion we will be able to create a film that not only are we proud of, but I believe a vast audience will find great enjoyment in. Me and Matthew have been working on this idea for a while now attempting to refine it from a feature length to a short, after a great deal of hard work and collaboration we have managed to produce a script that we believe will translate incredibly into a short film. I absolutely cannot wait to begin production on this project and truly hope you will consider giving whatever you can no matter how little as it will help us an extraordinary amount and will allow us to create something truly special.
Matthew 'James' Deeley
As one of the James brothers, my unwavering passion drives me to bring this film to fruition. My utmost priority lies in crafting a compelling narrative and achieving breath-taking cinematography to seamlessly weave together a truly extraordinary piece of work. While countless individuals create short films, our aim is to invest substantial time and effort into making ours truly distinctive.
My lifelong friend, Luke 'James' Uliasz, and I have shared an unbreakable bond since meeting at an acting club when we were just 14 years old. Our shared love for films was always the main topic of conversation, and at the age of 16, we decided to embark on our own filmmaking journey. Ever since, our dreams of becoming directors have steadily grown, as we have honed our skills in visually storytelling through the lens of a camera with each project we undertake.
We firmly believe that securing the necessary budget for this film will allow us to create something profoundly special, propelling us into the industry and paving the way for even bigger projects in the future. Our gradual ascent will ensure that we carry our dedicated crew along with us, guaranteeing the continued production of high-quality films. Your funding contribution holds the power not only to shape our careers but also to breathe life into this film according to our vision. Together, we can make this endeavour a resounding success and set the stage for future ventures that leave a lasting impact on audiences.

During this production, we will encounter several financial challenges. Some of these challenges include:
Production Design Costs: Creating an authentic 1970s setting requires significant investment in costumes, hair and makeup, sets, locations, and props. Achieving era accuracy can be expensive, especially if we aim for high-quality production values.
Actor Expenses: Hiring professional actors who can deliver strong performances adds to the budget. Their fees, accommodations, and other related expenses need to be accounted for.
Travel Expenses: As mentioned earlier, certain locations might be located up to an hour away, necessitating travel for the cast and crew. This includes transportation costs, such as fuel or rental vehicles, and potentially lodging if the travel is extensive.
Crew and Cast Compensation: While some crew members may volunteer for the experience, it's important to compensate key personnel appropriately. This includes essential crew members and any actors who may not be working on a voluntary basis.
Meals and Craft Services: Providing meals for the cast and crew on set is essential. It ensures their well-being, productivity, and overall morale. Budgeting for catering or craft services is necessary to meet this requirement.
Post-production Expenses: Once filming is complete, there are additional costs involved in the editing, sound design, visual effects, and overall post-production process. These costs can vary depending on the complexity and scope of the film.
Marketing and Distribution: Promoting and distributing the film to reach a wider audience also requires financial resources. Expenses may include advertising, film festival submissions, distribution fees, and promotional materials.
To overcome these financial challenges, it's necessary for us to secure funding through various means such as crowdfunding.
