I am working on a new film called NACIREMA. This film is a requirement for my MFA degree at Columbia University and will be shot on location in Middletown, CT. NacriemA marks my fourth collaboration with Director of Photography Andrew P. Waruszewski and my first with writer/producer Luke Spears. The filmmaking team is working closely with the non profit Veteran Arts Foundation and employing many veterans as key crew and cast members. To achieve the level of authenticity the filmmakers desire, the film’s cast is made up of predominately non professional actors and native Middletown residents. This project is fueled by a humanitarian effort to provide exposure, experience, and catharsis to the people of Middletown’s North End. The film’s synopsis is below.
WAR IS EVERYWHERE: War veteran WALKER drifts into a small forgotten industrial town, looking for work. He finds it, and a new home in the local YMCA, but insomnia keeps him up at night – wandering the streets, exploring the rundown corners. When he witnesses a brutal case of domestic violence, Walker finds himself drawn toward the violent underbelly of this typical American town – questioning where the lines of the battlefield are drawn, and how the instincts of a soldier measure against the responsibilities of a civilian.
NaciremA tells the story of one soldier’s return from war, and examines the pathos of living in that fine line between Love and Hate, Peace and War, Right and Wrong.
